Grime r_port vol. 20

Denmark-based Dubstep-imprint Kraken Recordings are hitting dancefloors with their second output - a split 12" between Ruf and Scandalous Unltd. . While Ruf's "Raw Love" comes up with a unseen fusion of heavy Dubstep artillery, short R'n'G-ish female vox-snippets and a mid-90's HardTrance-induced (sic!) appreggio hookline that instantly sets floors on fire, Scandalous Unltd.'s "The Solution" runs tings with a bleepy, warped sci-fi basslines, psyched out vocals samples and hard-hitting hi-tek drums that are defo Dubstep but still paying respect to their UK Garage-roots - at least kind of. One to buy blindfolded.

DMZ have put out cat.no. 012 these days, featuring another two tracks - "Lean Forward" and "Learn" - by Mala, who explores further territory in between rootsy Dubstep and more TechnoJazz-flavored sounds here. "Lean Forward" starts out as slow, deep sub-bass driven tune with some spooky, kind of whistling sounds on top but develops into a percussive, double-time burner later on accompanied by a strong signal hook that might be described as HiTech Jazz. "Learn" on the flip introduces a Snare vs. HiHat-intro that somehow seems to run and shuffle out of time throughout its progress, drops into the kicking "Why Haven't You Learned Anything?"-sample and goes on as halftime tune that - as "Lean Forward" does as well - sticks out by its unique HiTech Jazz-flavored hook that perfectly transfers the urban melancholia of late 80s Detroit Techno into the Dubstep vibe of inner city London of today. Great.

Rossi B & Luca's "Legacy E.P." is cat.no. 003 of Heavy Artillery, a massive four tracker that'll make it into the boxes of Dubstep- as well as Grime-jocks. Two outstanding tunes are A1 track "Nobody Knows" taking care of classic vocal snippets that have been used in Jungle and UK Garage as well and stylewise is close to what is regarded as roots-flavored Dub and B1 "Optimus Prime", a stakkato Grime banger featuring an artillery of samples that seem to be taken off a classical orchestra and due to that add a quite special feel to the tunes sound. Don't miss.

baze.djunkiii @ radio2b.org / 04.12.2005, pt.1

As there were quite a few requests regarding a Dubstep-related mix of mine throughout the last weeks, I just decided to make a classic set available for at least a few days. As a few of u might know there's been a nearly 3.5 hours Dubstep-/Grime-/Urban-related show at radio2b.org in december of 2005, which might be regarded one of the first webradio-shows broadcasted directly from Hamburg when it comes to these styles. Although the mixing is ruff due to technical difficulties regarding studio equipment and acoustics plus there are a few rapid changes and hard cuts stylewise it might be interesting especially for those who entered the realm of Dubstep / Grime only recently without knowöedge of what was going on soundwise back in the days. The show has been cut into three pieces - part 1 is available here...

Straight from the Ghetto - News on HipHop, pt. 28

One to watch out for is the quite limited 7" mashup entitled S. Vega "Tom's Diner *Free Soul RMX" / L. Allen - "Smile *Girl Next Door RMX" which is not to be released officially of course but informal. Reggae-afficionados will love the bootleg, which is rumored to be set up by a german Minimal Techno producer, of Suzanne Vega's massive hit that puts the vocals on top of a quite rootsy riddim that seems to be from the 70's while Lilly Allen's boot on the flip is based on more urban, contemporary beats flavored by BrokenBeats and House vibes. At the moment there are less than 100 copies around so catch up on this quickly...

A new one put out on promo circuit by Universal Motown is Chamillionaire's new tune "HipHop Police" featuring Slick Rick on vocal duties witch is ok but nothing more than another average functional HipHop tune with a short half life to go. Will keep the crowd moving but be forgotten quickly though.

Although her name sounds like she's a starlet involved into the german Schlager-scene Nicole Scherzinger might be regarded as a rising star when it comes to Urban meets DigiSoul as her new 12" "Whatever U Like" featuring T.I. on vocal duties put out via Interscope will mess up any dancefloor within seconds. Driving beats, a thrilling hook signal and her brilliant, ultra-energetic voice come make up a fresh sounding anthem taht can't be compared to anything released in ages. Is to be filed as must have, no-one questions that.

50 Cent rappin about dough. Once again. On Shady Records. As Usual. But "I Get Money" is better than his last, quite weak 12" output due to more dark'ish beats, cool samples and a kinda sawtooth shaped bassline hook. Anthemic as well, so it'll do its duties on the dancefloor well.

Longplay love 53.0

Hamburg based label Sunday Service are about to release their 13th piece on September 19th which'll be the longplayer "Riemerling" by Me Succeeds, an eleven track LP stuck between deep sensual Indie melancholia and decent, dancefloor fitting electronic beats replacing the classic band drumset - a musical niche that was single-handedly built and filled by the Sunday Service-imprint and has not been imitated by bandwagon jumpers yet for whatever reason. File under: music for living rooms of defected Indie kids now appreciating a proper E'd up club night out.

Scheduled for October 13th is "Raw", the first official artist album of the production team named Dirt Crew, which is to be released on their own Dirt Crew Recordings-imprint and holds nine brand new tracks plus an additional disc including nine remixes the boys delivered for acts like Freestyle Man, 2020 Soundsystem, Jimpster and others. Stuck between House-flavored Minimalism, some retro'ish Italo'esque influences and a deep, TechHouse-driven attitude that keeps the crowd moving all night long the Dirt Crew-sound is unique and functional, latter without even thinking of any compromise and due to that recommended to all musical connaisseurs and CDJ's as well as all tunes are featured in an unmixed and dj-friendly format. Ask yr local dealer to hunt this one down for u.

Hanska, Minnesota-based outfit A Whisper In the Noise have thir third full-length album "Dry Land" scheduled for release on October 5th via the highly acclaimed Exile On Mainstream label, a deep, caressing mixture of Indie Pop and Rock-elements fondly embracing West Thordon's athmospheric piano lines, electronic soundscapes and - for this kind of music - unusual instrumentation as there are violin, french-horn and other sound sources involved, which, combined as a whole, result in an unagitated piece of musical art, timeless and built to stand the test of time anyway, ready to soundtrack upcoming autumn evenings with pure beauty.

Parts in the post, pt. 69

A mysterious one-sided whitelabel, limited to 157 hand-numbered copies, holding the matrix code LUSC 09 is on the circuit these days, accompanied by evidently hand-made artwork, revealing the mirror-inverted text pieces "So Wrong", "Speaker Junk" and "RMX". Soundwise there's banging "nu French Touch" ElectroHouse to be found here alongside some filtered, weirdo vocal snippets that'll work well on any so-called NuRave dancefloor. And yes, according to the label code it seems to be the next output on Azzido Da Bass' Luscious Sounds-imprint but as there ain't no additional info provided we can't prove that...

Booty Luv's newest strike has been promotionally released under the name of "Shine" via Sound Of Urban / Hedkandi these days, serving new fodder for those jocks spinning in front of a more commercial audience, longing for some happy vibes spread by extremely glitzy Filter- /DiscoHouse. Four mixes to be found on this disc provided by Hoxton Whores, Moto Blanco and Ian Carey which do nothing wrong and stay with the glitz that's to be shining on the dancefloor. Proper.

House-remixes of Prayce's "Feel Good" have been put out by Zeitgeist / Universal recently featuring four new reworks by the likes of Mario Da Ragnio, DJ Goldfinger and others. All version clearly target at a big room crowd ready for some glitzy ElectroHouse action with a mainstream touch. OK, but far from being essential at all.
