Wolfgang Raspe - Underworld [Pharmacom Records 052]

As well to be released via Pharmacom Records in the near future is Wolfgang Raspe's new eight track album "Underworld" which explores several variations of Breakbeat-related music from Electro-influenzed Chemical Beatz to more chilled midtempo stuff; even some Jungle / Drum'n'Bass is involved here. Nearly all tracks are based on clean athmospheres, use some strange vocal samples and a few variations seem to be influenced by ethnic music or its artificial reproduction. Producers like Computerjockeys come to mind while listening to this one, or some late 90's releases on labels like City Of Angels or former Berlin-based imprint Timing Records although the latter mentioned was more focused on heavy Guitar-influenced BigBeat in its early days and only moved towards more Electro-based sounds or Proto-NuSkoolBreaks in its later history. Like the mentioned were Wolfgang Raspe's musical approach is defo unique and - to use this overabused term once again - leftfield enough to stick out.

Exbreaker - Unknown Flying Object E.P. [Pharmacom Recoords 053]

Soon to come via Pharmacom Records is Exbreaker's "Unknown Flying Object E.P." serving what could easily be filed as proper end-90's TechStep / Drum'n'Bass. Dark, growling, sci-fi and shaped with ultra-clean hihats and snares Shemyakin Dmitry - what is Exbreaker's real name - proves that this purist sound hasn't lost any of its fascination and energy at all although the scene moved on to styles like NeuroFunk or, even worse, Clownstep. If these tunes were available on viny and not only released digitally I'd rinse them out until the disc wears out.

Sascha Müller - Computer E.P. [Super 6 Records 044]

Scheduled for september 17th om Super 6 Records is Sascha Müller's new "Computer E.P." serving three pieces of bouncy, uptempo Techno clearly influenced by the ultra clean high tech aesthetics of Cisco Ferreira a.k.a. The Advent in his better - now far gone - days. Good shit for sure.

Ghetto Trax Again [ABCGS 004]

Well, this one looks like an old, original Dance Mania release from Chicago with its original label print artwork and even a - made up - catalogue number and matrix mark DM 285, but if one takes a closer look one recognizes that this one is a proper fake as artists like D. Grossmutter, Ilsa Gold, Handbag/Abba, Arthur Boto Conley, Toecutter, DJ Lil'Tal, T.B.F.K.A.P.D. and DJ House never appeared on any of the legendary labels 12"es. Also musicwise this is quite different from any Chicago Basement or Ghetto House originally delivered by Dance Mania. D. Grossmutter starts out with a extrordinary good Minimal Wave-song that could well stem from Berlins late 70's or early 80's Ingenious Dilletantes-era and is defo the best song out of all eight featured on this. Following up is an uptempo tongue-in-cheek Happy Acid banger, some experimental Breakcore vs. Freetekno is to be found as well accompanied by Electronica / Armchair Techno, some Cut-Up Ghetto Hardcore and other weirdness which makes this one quite interesting. Recommended to all free spirits loving the ruffer edge of electronic music.

La Roux - Bulletproof [Polydor]

Well, honestly I'm not the biggest fan of the l8est female Indie/Electro-hype named La Roux and couldn't do a thing with any of the lots of remix versions offered these days apart from the unauthorized but massive "In For The Pill" re-lick unleashed via Cut & Run a while ago. But her label Polydor / Universal seem to be highly convinced that they'll make a good stash of money and so they've been sending out a square picture 7" - sic! - as promo for her tune "Bulletproof" which is admittedly not the worst piece of Pop music ever released. Of course it's quite harmless and will appeal to Indie girls in their sweet 16s as well as to listeners of formatted radio and the usual hipsters and one might feel quite uncomfortable due to its sweetness when consumed on heavy rotation but as a tool to please your crowd one might play this piece out from time to time. Props in putting that much effort in that special format and artwork, though.

Audiolith-Fest

Dyse - Lieder Sind Brüder Der Revolution [Exile On Mainstream]

Scheduled for october 9th via Exile On Mainstream is Dyse's second full length album entitled "Lieder Sind Brüder Der Revolution" and once again they serve a menu of finest Stop-and-Go Hardcore Rock'n'Roll that might as well appeal to all lovers of Skate Metal and related genres. Highly energetic and fan proven within over 300 shows the band has been playing up to this day it becomes evident that they've been working on finetuning their music while being on stage as they've added several other instruments to their drum/guitar-focused trademark sound and used them in a quite humorous and surpising way while recording "Lieder Sind Brüder Der Revolution". Not only recommended to those who are fans of Dyse already but as well to all those interested in new and progressive forms of rock music. Check out.

Steve Bug - Swallowed Too Much Bass *Remixes [Poker Flat Recordings 106 Promo]

As mentioned while reviewing Steve Bug's recent album "Collaboraty" "Swallowed Too Much Bass" is one of the strongest club tracks on there and due to this no-one will be surprised that decision was made to take this one out as first single. Apart from the original version featuring Paris The Black Fu on vocal duties there are remix versions by Joris Voorn and Kris Wadsworth to be found on this 12" as well. While Mr. Voorn is on a quite minimalistic TechHouse-tip which is quite unusual when compared to his recent releases Detroit's Kris Wadsworth serves some spicy, raw, pumping late night House funk for small underground clubs, classic chord lovers and DeepHouse connaisseurs.

The Remixes Volume 03 [Dessous Classics 003 Promo]

It's not that long ago since Dessous Recordings established their sister-/sub-label Dessous Classics which is now about to unveal its third release. Once again we've The Discowboys featured, remixed by project-member and label owner Steve Bug himself who delivers a perfect late night cut plus tracks by Two Armadillos and Phonique re-worked by the likes of Langenberg and Ripperton. One is to doubt whether these tracks can already be referred to as classics as they stem from the younger Dessous Recordings history but no-one will doubt that those new versions are about to move some clubbers asses on the dancefloor - especially talking about Rippertons re-fix of Phonique's "For The Time Being" here as this one combines the magic of being decent with a long, quite epic build-up that's surely able to enlighten punters faces. Recommended.

Fresh on Super 6 Goodies is LazioKasaa & Alex Cresp's "Rookie E.P. Bodymovin - Everybody [Moonbootique 035 Promo]

Taken off Bodymovin's debut album is "Everybody" that is soon to be released via Moonbootique Records as their cat.no. 035. Apart from the slower original track there's a remix work done by the label owners to be found which transform the whole tune into an anthemic piece for primetime abuse that features the pitched up vocal as ever-changing loop and even explores Acid-influenced territories which is quite unusual for Moonbootica's work. Turning the record unveals a massive rework delivered by the production team of Turntablerockers who manage to serve a thrilling piece of Latin-/TribalHouse that well fits into the best mid-nineties pieces of Strictly Rhythm or Masters At Work without sounding dated for any reason. This one's huge and I'd really love to hear more music like this being pattered through high-end PA's in Germany's clubs.

Nightnoise - Dawn Time [Super 6 Records 043.5]

Scheduled for august 27th on Super 6 Records is "Dawn Time" - a brand new six tracker straight from the studios of Flensburgs DJ/producer Nightnoise who is exploring the realms of deeper, more hypnotic but still kicking Techno with this release. Surprisingly Nightnoise is even featuring some Trance- and DarkPsy-related elements from time to time which seems to be a new twist added to his sound. Although the tracks are quite toolish and made for DJs rather than homelisteners there's at least one track sticking out - "Compressor Jacking" which is about to set floors on fire with its nice uplifting attitude.

Nox - Complex Buying Behaviour [Super 6 Goodies 054]

Fresh on Super 6 Goodies is Nox' new longplay album entitled "Complex Buying Behaviour" which serves a menu of thirteen thrilling, hard pumpin' Techno tracks with humorous attitude and some funny, bleepy sounds that make punters smile on the dancefloor although the bass drum is hitting them hard and without mercy. True underground shit for those who like their Techno raw & pure.

Meaniebar: Upcoming Changes In 2010

It's been since February 2007 now since I've been playing every monday night out @ Hamburg's Meaniebar and ever since I've been dedicating one monthly monday night entitled "Urban!zm" to the sound of Dubstep / Grime and MythStep. But throughout the last twelve month it became more than evident that there's a total lack of innovation and new sounds in this musical field these days and I'm quite bored of far more than 90 percent of new release that deliver only same same and no different. Due to this "Urban!zm" nights will only take place on a bi-monthly basis from 2010 onwards which are 6 shows instead of 12 per year. The now free other nights will be covered by two different concepts - "Phlexi.BRX" for classic NuSkool- / ElectroBreaks and "Mission:Cosmic" for the sound of Epic Synth, Cosmic Disco, Italo Disco and some Library Music as well.

N.O.H.A. - Tu Cafe [Whitelabel Promo]

It's been quite a while ago since a promo of a N.O.H.A.-release was sitting in my post box and I must admit that I wasn't aware that they're still running their business. But now they're back on track with their single "Tu Cafe" featuring some massive remix effort. Tocadisco and Deekline & Ed Solo deliver the best versions here - while the first mentioned is on a slightly progressive-flavored 4-2-the-floor-tip the brits are doing what they do best: serving a spicy piece of bassline-driven NuSkool- / TearOutBreaks that is about to rock raving crowds all over the place due to a nice contrast of huge basslines, seductive latin vocals and some funkiness invlvd. I'm gonna play that one out for quite a while.

Terry Lynn - Kingstonlogic [Universal / Urban]

Another HipHop / ElectroHouse-hybrid abusing the vocal style of Missy Elliott's seminal "Touch It, Feel It..."-flow which has been used by the likes of Daft Punk before. I've got no clue why the promo sheet is trying hard to sell this rip off as a new, hot style named "GhettoTech" but as this record has nothing to do with anything GhettoTech / GhettoBass coming out of Detroit this can be truly claimed as ape shit marketing anyway. No matter what, this one's functional and able to move some young club kids asses anyway if the vibes seem to lower somewhen throughout the night and that's what it should be used for. Tool.

Neurov - Bass Monkey [Super 6 Records 043]

New on Super 6 Records is Neurov's recent "Bass Monkey" release which provides nothing less than the original track plus a package of eight remixes provided by the likes of Sascha Müller, DJ Pablishhh!, Toph Subderground, Pedro Duarte and others. A lot of remixes one might think but there's none too much featured here as the "Bass Monkey" is a bass-driven, heavily anthemic animal, able to cause mayhem on all dancefloors from TechHouse to NuRave to straightforward Techno - music for the raving crew. And if u happen to love massive banging Drum'n'Bass - don't forget to check out the additional bonus tune entitled "Rave Shock" which is about to batter the shit out of any crowd. Rrrrewind.

Wolfgang Raspe - Hopeless E.P. [Säurebad Records 015]

It's quite astounding how fast Säurebad Records reached their fifteenth release and how they - in these days that are nearly 20 years post AcidHouse and more than 10 years post Acid in its heydays - still manage to be creative with a 303 and/or it's clones. Like Wolfgang Raspe is going deep and experimental on this three-tracker, serving one excursion into the realms of Electronica meets Acid and two late night groovers that'll inject a bit of brain confusion into minds of the wasted dancefloor youth.

A-Heads - Forgotten Hero

This is one of my alltime favorite Punk / (Post)Punk songs ever and I love my copy of the original 7" release to death which was recorded at Pickwick Studios / Corsham on July 3rd, 1983 and put out via Bluurg Records in the same year. But seeing the song being performed live is great as well.
