Various Artists - Threenity [Bassmaessage 003]

Coming in from Leipzig's Bassmaessage camp these days is "Threenity", the labels third six track compilation album since its inception in 2015. Opening with LUI's "Nasu Dengaku" we're drawn onto late night dancefloors with a classic stripped down UK Garage swing and detailed vocal cut ups designed for intimate clubs well below a max capacity of 200 whereas "Shattered" by Trainsient brings forth a darker, somewhat danger-heralding crimescene vibe with its brooding atmosphere, fluttering low end rumbles and highly syncopated, complex yet skeletal beat foundation whilst Psionide's "Serpent" weighs in glistening pads and widescreen panoramic vibes alongside percussive harmonics evoking memories of South East Asian influences backed by junglistic Breakbeat rolls to round off the A-side. Coming on first on the flip is "Raga Dub" by Son De Maquis, a timeless feathering deep Dubstep affair with a bit of a dark sci-fi twist followed by Miles Won's "Parrish VIP" and its undeniably seductive low end pressure, offbeat licks and dubbed out samples which for us evoke fond memories of Dubstep's early formative years before Dub Across Borders' "Center Hit" deeply indulges in what might be filed under the flag of Experimental Ambient Dub with its soft and tender harmonic fragments, sparse beat pulse and multiple interfering layers of echo and delay patterns made for advanced ChillOut floors and after party sessions. Bass is well healthy and alive in Leipzig's underground scene, it seems.
