Peggy Lee & Cole Schmidt - Forever Stories Of: Moving Parties [Earshift Music 098]
Released via the Canadian label Earshift Music on November 15th, 2k24 is "Forever Stories Of: Moving Parties", the first collaborative album effort of long time friends and musical partners in crime Peggy Lee and Cole Schmidt as a core duo, collaborating with a wide circle of artists and musicians over the course of this roughly 53 minutes spanning longplayer and its fourteen pieces. Having worked together on several occasions and over many years, which includes playing in each others respective bands alongside various other projects, Lee and Schmidt are exploring a wide range of sounds on this project, starting from an angle of deep, calm, comforting and romantic late night Jazz slow jams with the opening cut "Blame" to the almost Balearic Downtempo vibe of "It Will Come Back" and its tender Spoken Word performance whereas "Mercy" seems to be flirting with folksy, rural vibes as well as echoes of Modern Classical. Furthermore "Try To Waltz" and its repetetive, yet ever changing twangy guitar lines turns out to be a rather thrilling and captivating, and also surprisingly dramatic..., affair whilst "Fallride" harks back to a more tender tonality, floating and once again backed and accompanied by seductive Spoken Word sequences before "For Ron Miles" could be described as a soft, piano-driven instrumental ballad touched by New Age and comforting Easy Listening just to name a few. Defo a well comforting album for cold winter nights.
