David Ahlen - Impartation [Atrium Artists Promo]
Put out on the digital circuit via Atrium Artists on April 17th, 2k26 is "Impartation", the latest mini album released by Swedish composer, musician and painter David Ahlen - and his first musical outing in over four years, presenting a selection of nine brand new pieces within a total time frame of a little more than 27 minutes and coming back from quite a bit of a personal struggle with this one. Opening with "Shin" Ahlen enters a realm of mythical, misty, yet dark'ish and nocturnal Ambient structures based on eerily beautiful off kilter harmonies and enormous spatial width followed by the more intimate and elegic, deeply melancholic and inward looking piece that is "Untitled" featuring enchanted hovering non-vocalisms and phrasing by Rebecka Karlsson who is also present in the fluttering and otherworldly "Yinnon", a piece that sees Ambient-adjacent minimalism and echoes of Contemporary Composition on the brink of a total - and tonal - collapse - whereas the title track "Impartation" balances the outer edges of the audible Dark Ambient spectrum before "Vav" gives us a full serving of brittle, quivering and ever decaying Post-Vaporwave neon aesthetics just to name a few. If you're in for a rather inward-looking sonic experience and a dedicated fan of enchanted Deep Listening Music this probably is one release to check out for a reason.
