Felsenmeer - Reliefs [Aut Records 150]

Released via the ever active Italian staple that is Aut Records on April 8th, 2k26 is "Reliefs", the latest musical outing by the Felsenmeer quartet comprised of Josephine Besancon, Charles Paillet, Fanny Boutellier and Matheo Cieslo. Combining an instrumental setting of quadruple vocal action, double bass, drums and clarinets over a total of six compositions and roughly 35 minutes playtime Felsenmeer are starting out on a rather late night Jazz tip working their way up to a multiple of surprisingly full orchestral sounding climaxes in the opening piece "Chute" whereas the title track "Reliefs" gets deep into tender and caressing laid-back grooves best consumed alongside expensive top drawer cocktails and spirits in backroom cladden with dark wooden interieur and wafting cigar smoke followed by the extended center piece "Hymne Au Monde Muet" with its calming nocturnal minimalism and beautifully arranged, slightly twangy extended solo bass elaborations whilst catering a bit of a surprise with the eerie off-kilter intro leading into the complex and fast-paced "Meltem" which defo is the most Jazz dancefloor suitable cut on this album for a reason just to name a few. Defo a sweet entry point for dedicated Jazz lovers to be, sporting an absolutely brilliantly beautiful cover for the collector crew as well. Check.
