01. Various Artists - Yves Deruyter: 40 Years [N.E.W.S.]
What a box the Belgian DJ and producer icon Yves Deruyter compiled for N.E.W.S. Records here. A set of 10 - yes... T-E-N! - 12" records filled to the brim with iconic Rave and Techno cuts from the 90s and beyond, starting with a rework of his very own anthem "The Rebel", covering Intelligent Techno territories with F.U.S.E. vs LFO's uber classic "Loop", paying homage to early days of clubbing with DNA's "La Serinissima" and Reese & Santonio's "Rock To The Beat", catering anthems like Phantasia's "Inner Light", hard hitting Techno like Meng Syndicate's "Sonar System" whilst Peyote's hymn "Alcatraz" covers epic late night Trance vibes, All In One's "Mama's Kick" activates the underground raving crew, DJ Bountyhunter's "The Bountyhunter" provides fodder for the Early Hardcore / DarkRave fanatics and The Wavecatcher's "Flight DH 2126" uses and abuses the classic vocal sample from The Shamen's "Possible Worlds" in a deep Trance conctext whilst Ege Of Motion's "Set Up 707" weighs in psyched out Acid madness just to name a few. If you're looking for a general introduction to dancefloor-focused electronic music of the 90s, a collection of historic value and accuracy or just a gateway drug to the Rave and Techno - this compilation qualifies in each and every aforementioned aspect. Get.
02. Calagad 13 - Cyberphunk Expansion [Cosmic Tribe 005]
This is as rare and heavy as it gets. Strictly limited to a total of 150 copies this eight track album brings out the best in dark ominous underground Electro, relentless Electrobreaks, bleepy RoboRave and an overall brooding feel which defo makes us not want to cancel the forthcoming apocalypse. This is music for post-nuclear dancefloors and epic interstellar space battles.
03. Various Artists - Alien Edits Vol.1 [AEDITS-001]
Yes, this is one of these records. Not underground. Not cool. Yet rather cheesy and some might even call it commercial. But there's absolutely no way that these bouncy House / TechHouse reworks of Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved" and Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" don't make you smile and x or work crowds proper with their slightly twisted filters, subtle glitches and an overall positive and uplifting approach. And sometimes even the most underground leaning DJ might need some tools like this in his arsenal. Therefore worthwhile.
