Catherine Christer Hennix - Selected Early Keyboard Works [Empty Editions / Blank Forms Promo]

Put on the circuit as a joint venture release between Empty Editions and Blank Forms are Catherine Christer Hennix' "Selected Early Keyboard Works" which hit the stores on September 7th, 2k18. Stemming from as early as 1976 the three recordings on this 2xLP vinyl with the first one split over both sides of the first record were extracted from rehearsal tapes for the 10-day "Dream Music Festival" taking place in the same year in Stockholm, an occasion on which the works of the Swedish composer were performed to the public. Opening with "Nouvelle Mode De Modalites / Nouvelle Mode De Modalites II" we see Catherine Christer Hennix perform freely, yet repetetively over a sine wave drone, bringing forth variations and alterations of an expressive motif coming from a surely psychedelia-induced dream world, with both parts still echo'ing the fresh promises and unexplored possibilities of the young electronic music scene at the time whilst also partially harking back to classical piano techniques over the course of both pieces with the second one providing a buzzing, slightly nervous and partly even jazzy twist without being related to Jazz at any point. With "The Well-Tuned Marimba" the Swedish artist evokes more fluid, dream-like memories of slowly morphing seas of psychedelic technicolour before the final, 24+ minutes lasting cut "Equal Temperament Fader Mix" employs virtuoso piano techniques on the Rhodes as well as advanced tape delays for a dusted, yet fascinating vintage sound that's highly fascinating up to this day. Check!
