Jo Berger Myhre & Olafur Björn Olaffson - Lanzarote [Hubro Music]

Released via the Norwegian label Hubro Music on October 4th, 2k19 is "Lanzarote", the second conjunctional album created by the duo of Jo Berger Myhre and Olafur Björn Olaffson. Influenced by the sudden death of the Norwegian composer Johann Johannson, the work of Michel Houellebecq and the island of Lanzarote itself, the latter playing a role in various layers of depth here, the pair of musicians created an album of seven tracks, mostly condensed improvisations which were later saturated and re-edited to come into full fruition and find their final form. Opening with a "Grain Of Sand" Jo Berger Myhre and Olafur Björn Olaffson are exploring a tender amalgamation of Ambient-infused pads and somewhat Balearic guitar repetitions and progressions accompanied by off-kilter string works and a beauteous crystalline breakdown as an introduction to a sonic world ruled by caressing harmonies as well influences of intimate (Neo)Classical chamber music, subdued Jazz drumming and electronic background experimentation providing a certain, yet never fully disturbing edge over the course of the albums runtime of roughly 33 minutes. ChillOut (Not ChillOut) might be a phrase to employ in terms of describing "Lanzarote" as a full longplay piece.
