Mikolaj Trzaska / Ingebrigt Haker Flaten / Paal Nilssen-Love - The Last Temple Vol. 2 [Gusstaff Records]

Put out on the circuit via the ever growing Polish label that is Gusstaff Records on November 22nd, 2k24 is "The Last Temple Vol. 2", the CD part of an actually three different formats spanning meta album conceived by Mikolaj Trzaska, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten and Paal-Nilssen-Love. Rolled out over the course of roughly 53 minutes and two extended pieces - "Nothing Small Like This" and "March Of Pagan" - this longplayer represents an excerpt from a concert the triumvirate of artists played in Krakow / Poland in March of 2k24, exploring the wild, untamed and fast-paced landscapes of Free Jazz x Free Improv, focusing on wild sax rides which can be still traced and connected back to more traditional Jazz territories whilst bass and drums provide a muscular, oftentimes thundering and almost fever'ish backdrop only retreating into intricately arranged minimalist sequences for short periods of time before building up to noisy and intense heights again whereas the second piece starts out from an angle of dreamy, yearning and melancholia-inducing sax improvisations which, the further the piece progresses, are spiralling up to screaming, hounded heights once again supported and backed by the groups signature drum and bass works, even though this piece also leans into quieter and more stripped down nocturnal Jazz realms as well. Intense, yet seductive.
