Duncan Pinhas & Yerri-Gaspar Hummel - Voyage Initiatique [Lab'ut 005 Promo]

Put out on the circuit via the still young Lab'ut label as their cat.no. 005 on February 24th, 2k23 is "Voyage Initiatique", the latest collaboration album crafted and conceived by Duncan Pinhas and Yerri-Gaspar Hummel. Combining their instruments of choice - guitar and saxophone respectively - for a 63 minutes spanning journey split up in 14 tracks with foreboding titles like "Voodoo", "Rupture" "Wild", "Haze", "Schwarzwald" and others the duo's sonic approach evolves from sustained, gnarly and klaxon'esque drone layerings to deep, sometimes a little kitschy guitar solos taking both inspiration from psychedelia-infused Progressive Rock and Berlin School Space Ambient, playful FreeJazz improvisations, cinematic Deep Listening Music which evokes faint memories of artists like Fennesz, outerworldly off-kilter siren songs, elegic late night Jazz melancholia and way beyond, including most intriguing layers of brooding DarkJazz x DoomJazz to be found in "Awakening" just to pick out one personal favorite here alongside the also highly recommended maelstrom of feedback noise and jazzed out melodies of the concluding and aptly titled "Lava". Well interesting stuff, this.
