Marc Sarrazy / Laurent Rochelle - Cyclotimic Songs [Les Disques Linoleum 024]

Released on June 11th, 2k21 as cat.no. 024 of the Le Disques Linoleum label is "Cyclotimic Songs", the new conceptual album created by Marc Sarrazy and Laurent Rochelle for the imprint. Basically following the idea of using pre-existing and probably even previously released material as raw sound source for radical reassembly and re-arrangements the duo creates an entirely new album of ten songs / compositions merging the idea of Plunderphonics, Leftfield Pop and electronic music to a remarkable degree from the very start of the Dub-heavy opener "Fantomastic" onwards which is nothing short of a late night banger on advanced dancefloors, progressing into the deep, noir'esque DeepHouse x Spoken Word vibe of "L'heure De S'enivrer", the dark and fully jazzed out Piano Dub of "Sad Hill Rendez-vous" before "Comme Une Vague" brings a swinging variation of TripHop back again - think Spacer in Dub for a reference, plus vocals. Furthermore "Moving In Circles" brings us back to multilayered piano loops, swing and jazzy vocals provided by Manel Cheniti, "Talking To Malkovich" is another reference to the dark'ish, stripped down and inward looking TripHop variation once popularized by acts like Spacer and so is the even darker, hyper tense atmospheric minimalism of "Buffalo IV". The subsequent "Blue Funeral" caters more of a funky Downbeat vibe with a Spoken Word twist, "Calcutta Western" focuses on Dope Beatz and perfectly executed scratches for all HipHop headz as well as fans of outstanding acts like DJ Krush whereas the concluding "Lobotomy Nostalghia" pairs the Dope Beat approach with live drumming and haunting late night atmospheres for a closing. Excellent. Get.

Tomasz Sroczynski - Symphony No. 2 / Highlander [Ici D'Ailleurs / Mind Travel Series]

Freshly released via the Ici D'Ailleurs Mind Travel Series on June 25th, 2k21 is "Symphony No. 2 / Highlander", the latest musical outing cooked up by young Polish composer Tomasz Sroczynski for the label. Within a total of four tracks and roughly 42 minutes runtime Sroczynski explores a sonic realm located in the grey area between Contemporary Classical / Modern Classical and experimental electronic music techniques, focusing on multilayered and slightly off-kilter violin loops in the fascinatingly large scale opener "Moderato Pastorale" whereas the follow up that is "Adagio" fully indulges in brooding, carefully arranged DarkAmbient meet Modern Classical streams and therefore is our favorite cut on this album, especially in its most romantic, most Wagnerian moments. Subsequently "Diablak" traverses into what might described as a fusion inspired by both medieval formal dances as well as melancholia-infused Nordic Folk paired up with looper sequences whilst the concluding cut that is "Highlander" drifts off into pure, floating and atmospheric Ambient beauty for genre purists and lovers. Lovely stuff.

"Blue" Gene Tyranny - Degrees Of Freedom Found [Unseen Worlds 035]

This is a tribute. And what a tribute this is. A year after his untimely passing in 2k20 the Unseen Worlds imprint launches a massive 6CD box set including a 24 page booklet to honor the life and work of "Blue" Gene Tyranny, presenting a large scale compilation of previously unreleased pieces, unheard before live recordings and cuts dug up from the artists vast archive and treasure trove which makes this one not only a tribute and overview over the creative musings of "Blue" Gene Tyranny between 1963 and 2019 and his more than half a century spanning career but also an entirely new album on its own. Or both if you will. With a runtime of more than six - 6 (sic!) - hours making it impossible to provide a detailed track by track review but to at least a roughly outline the wide range of sonic goodness on "Degrees Of Freedom Found" the musical arch reaches from smokey, inward-looking late night BarJazz solo piano improvisations to more theoretical, conceptual piano works, beautifully floating ChillOut- / Balearic-leaning pieces like in the "Dreamtime"-cycle, captivating big band arrangements, scenic Spoken Word poetry accompanied by piano and atmospheres, crystalline Ambient passages and of course references of Modern Classical / Contemporary Classical music as well as, wait for it, Country, Easy Listening and swinging Psychedelia-infused Synth Boogie episodes in the 26 minutes spanning "Barn Fever" as well as crackly, cinematic DarkAmbient in tunes like "Driving Music" to touch only on a few sonic realms, alongside many more, this box set features. Only one word needed: Monolithic.

Alex Levine: Special Adaptations - Special Adaptations Volume 1 [Aut Records 071]

Put out on the circuit via the Italian label that is Aut Records as their cat.no. 071 on April 26th, 2k21 is "Special Adaptations Volume 1", the first ever release by the five piece band project Alex Levine: Special Adaptations which was recorded and conceived throughout a two weeks artist residency in Milano in mid-november of 2k19. Spread out over eleven cuts and roughly 42 minutes playtime we experience a well tentative and tender exploration of the sonic realm that is the Jazz world, following a harmonic, yet most likely non-linear approach in composition, pairing recognizable motifs and melodic structures with complex, tumultuous drums and percussions put way into the background of the overall mix with cuts like the swinging, slightly vintage piece "Milanoni" with its surprising turn towards the upper end of the uptempo scale, the mechanical rhythm signatures and chiming bells to be found in the only 76 seconds spanning "Geminifico" or the laid back guitars of "Fuor Fuoco" and "Bellano Lake" sticking out most on the first listening session. If you love your Jazz on a positive, somewhat summery note this is one to check for a reason.

Dal:um - Similar & Different [Tak:til / Glitterbeat]

Just released as of today - June 25th, 2k21 - is "Similar & Different", the first ever album release by the Korean duo Dal:um which is exploring and expanding the possibilities of the interplay of the traditional Korean instruments known as gayageum and geomungo. Comprised of Ha Suyean and Hwang Hyeyoung Da:lum presents an approximately 37 minutes long firstling on Tak:til / Glitterbeat Records, focusing on the tender, intricate interplay of these ancient, "Similar & Different" instruments in deep, Ambient meditation whilst also going down a twangy, lively and somewhat even Desert Blues-leaning alley in the unique and touching composition that is "Pal" whereas "Trace", another big favorite of ours, meanders in well krautsy, captivating and energetic matter like a mountain river, swirling, ever hounded and with increased dynamics and intensity in what we'd describe as white water passages whilst presenting moments of stillness and peaceful panoramic beauty towards the end. If you're inte instruments like zither, dulcimer or even genres like Instrumental (Nordic) Folk you'd defo need to check this one out, even though it does come from a totally different geographic background. Well interesting!

Rex Ronny & DJ Sotofett - Epidermis [Full Pupp 075 Test Press]

It's been roughly eight years since DJ Sotofett first appeared on Full Pupp only to make a full on return in late July, 2k21 alongside partner in crime Rex Ronny, catering a hefty seven track menu on their "Epidermis EP" which marks the 75th release for the Norwegian label. With three Ambient / Synth / (Neo)Cosmic skits and especially the four dancefloor-focused cuts on this 12" release Rex Ronny & DJ Sotofett are exploring a sonic terrain located somewhat in between your regular TechHouse vibe and NuDisco / KrautDisco, a well seductive amalgamation that brings forth the seductive grooves and glitzy retrofuturistic laser zips of tracks like "Cerbionical Sweep", the dubbed out, panoramic and trippy CosmoKraut / Krautbient sequences of "Segmented Aether" which surely will resonate with dedicated fans of Kraftwerk and the likes of whereas both "Thermoplastic Flush" and "Internal Phaseshift" provide raw, highly functional fodder for NuDisco raves to come. If that sounds like a vibe to you go and check this one out.

Stale Storløkken - Ghost Caravan [Hubro Music]

Released via the Norwegian staple Hubro Music these days is "Ghost Caravan", the second full length solo album created and composed for the label by Stale Storløkken who presents a menu of improvised, yet formally connected church organ tracks on this one. Spread out over the course of roughly 39 minutes the ten compositions on "Ghost Caravan" were all live recorded at a church named Steinkjer Kirke and surely explore the range and dynamic possibilities of such an ancient, yet still alive instrument in a modernist music context, starting from the droning Ambient opener "Cloudland I" to various bright and lively, all subsequently named (Neo)Classical pieces one could refer to as the "... Sphere"-circle, the haunted, intense and atmospheric minimalism of "Cloudland III" whereas "Cloudland IV" seemingly focuses on the intrinsic mechanical movements of the instrument itself, "Third Sphere" provides a well captivating large scale score piece that's nothing short of epic rolled out over nearly 10 minutes playtime and "Drifting On Wasteland Ocean" even explores the minor scale movements of - still fully analogue! - Desolation Ambient and therefore is one of our favorite cuts on this well fascinating longplay piece.

Trope Ashes - Push The Frozen Soul [Baumusik 063 Promo]

Set for release on June 25th, 2k21 via the Cologne-based imprint Baumusik is "Push The Frozen Soul", the new six track EP conceived by the local duo Trope Ashes which are exploring and expanding their sonic universe over the course of roughly 23 minutes, starting with the beautifully spaced out and twisted Leftfield Pop of "All Is Yours" which fuses 90s Alternative vibes and echoes and echoes of Depeche Mode-influences with intense, glitch-heavy FuturePop and a storming crescendo of Digital Noize whereas "Rockstar" presents an amalgamation of blurry, intimate Indie atmospheres and highly compressed GlitchPop / Vaporwave whilst "Wooahh" weighs in a shimmering array of haunted emotions and advanced dancefloor functionality - think Superorganism for a vibe here. Furthermore "Being Haunted" indulges in twisted, hyperfragmented Post Future R'n'B, "SCREAM" - in capital letters - brings forth an intensity and complexity somewhat similar to Björk in the 90s and the final cut that is "Sabada" even approaches Leftfield Pop from an acoustic, tender and ballad'esque angle. File under: hypermodernist web music.

Elme - Shimmer [Teleskop 009 / Allmyghosts Promo]

Scheduled for release on June 25th, 2k21 as a conjunctional effort shared between the two Lepizig-based imprints Teleskop and Allmyghosts is "Shimmer", the first ever musical outing by the musical duo that is Elme, comprised of Sebastian Bode and Markus Rom which, within seven tracks and roughly 29 minutes playtime, explore a free-floating and both genre- as well as structure-defying sonic architecture somewhat reminiscent of the tentative, organic and friendly late 90s and early 2000s Electronica championed by labels like Digital Kranky or Heimelektro whilst even providing playful, frolicking dancefloor grooves with tracks like "Bird Word" whereas the title track "Shimmer" caters a most beautiful, warm and slightly melancholia-inducing take on Skweee'esque downtempo Electronica with a vintage twist that, similar to the subsequent "Lim", evokes blurred memories of the often Psychedelia-infused soundscapes created by the likes of Felix Kubin or Grönland Orchester or other likeminded artists. A sweet little debut, this - and it's released on cassette tape!

Laurent Saiet & Guests - After The Wave [Trace 056]

Released via the Trace label as their cat.no. 056 on June 19th, 2k21 is "After The Wave", the latest album outing by long standing producer / composer Laurent Saiet who's been a part of the imprints artist family since 1995. With his new longplayer, housed in a beautiful and unique baroque collage 7" foldout cover the artist diverts from his usual solo approach but provides a basic mellotron-based foundation on and to which a plethora of guests contribute, e.g. Edward Ka-Spel of the Legendary Pink Dots and Quentin Rollet of Nurse With Wound amongst others. The result of this new way of working on music is an eleven tracks and roughly 55 minutes spanning journey starting with the eerie, angelic, large scale SynthWave epos of "Bypass" as well as the excellent, stripped down and brooding PostPunk / KrautDisco crossover of "The First Wave" which both lay the foundation for great things to come like the surprisingly Jazz Noir leaning "Mambo Of The 21st Century" which, once again, evokes memories of the legendary "Showroom Recordings Series" on Cheap Records, the excellent Desert Blues of "The Second Wave", the elastic, intricately layered Post-PostRock / Indietronica Noir fusion of "The Third Wave" and the somewhat innocent, yet dramatic and captivating LeftfieldPop of "From The Rocks" which is defo our favorite cut on this highly recommended album. Good stuff. Get!

Q & A - The New Me [ReQords 007 / Test Recordings 011]

Released as a collaborational effort of the labels named ReQords and Test Recordings on June 15th , 2k21 is "The New Me", the first ever remotely recorded album outing by Q & A a.k.a. Quentin Rollet and Andrew Sharpley which, as a duo, combine their instruments of choice - saxophones and computer - to create a 6 tracks and roughly 41 minutes spanning firstling with this one. Having known eachother for more than two decades it is, somewhat surprisingly, the first time the two artists actually joined forces for a project, presenting a musical landscape which is mostly focusing on harmonic, Jazz-leaning sax improvisations which oftentimes provide a tender, somewhat even romantic feel whilst bits like our personal favorite "Placeholder" gravitate towards floating, Ambient- / ChillOut-leaning backings with minimal sax interventions, "421" provides the calm and comfort of an autumnal Sunday afternoon spent in good company and deep conversation whereas the concluding "Asymmetric" focuses on slightly warped, vintage sounding Ambient structures for a closing just to name a few. Deep.

Andreas Davids - Schellennietenregen [Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse 101]

Put out on the circuit as a limited to 50 copies hand-numbered four track cassette tape EP via Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse is "Schellennietenregen", the most recent musical outing by Xotox-mastermind Andreas Davids who's employing his real life name for this roughly 30 minutes spanning release. Diving deep into a blurred VHS-vision realm located in the grey area between twisted Ambient warpings, futurist Vaporwave pastels, Electronica and glitched out high-speed IDM, partially touched by Synth and (Neo)Cosmic we see Mr. Davids catering his most contemporary and probably most crossover-suitable solo release so far which, especially when it comes to the Sino Vaporwave of "Wir Kommen In Scharen", will defo be appreciated by musical connaisseurs beyond the Industrial / EBM / HardTechno scene he usually calls home.

Thomas Köner - Nuuk [Mille Plateaux]

Also fresh on the circuit via Mille Plateaux is this one, released on June 11, 2k21 and in fact another re-release version as Thomas Köner's "Nuuk" album saw the light of day via MillePlateauxMedia back in 2004 as a solo album but used to be a part of the 1997 quadruple album compilation "Driftworks" even before that. Now available once again the seven tracks on "Nuuk", originally perceived and influenced by Köner's experiences of travelling the Arctic, are still as glacial and minimalist as ever, with brittle, slightly frosty Ambient atmospheres micro-evolving on top of humungous, slow moving bassscapes located at the lower, most tectonic end of the audible spectrum to induce an atmosphere of vast- and timelessness one can easily transfer to and associate with the polar region where everything turns into an overwhelmingly washed out amalgamation of whiteout and total isolation which is carefully sculpted and emulated through an arrangement of minimalist layers that are best described as and most essential in terms of carving out the Isolationist Ambient niche as a microtonal sub-genre of the entire electronic music world. Classic.

Niepokoje Goscinne - Niepokoje Goscinne [Gusstaff Records Promo]

Scheduled for release via Poland's Gusstaff Records on June 25th, 2k21 is "Niepokoje Goscinne", the self-titled album debut by the trio of the same name consisting of Maciej Parada, Mateusz Rosinski and Michal Wdowikowski which are all hailing from the city of Gorzow Wielkopolski in Western Poland. Combining their instruments of choice - saxophone, drums and electronics - over the course of six tracks and roughly 39 minutes we see the triplet embark on a thundering, highly improvisational journey built on echoes of echoes of FreeJazz, apocalyptic drum excesses and free electronic bleepage whilst pieces like "Pokoj Minus Jeden" tend to gravitate towards Post-Industrial Lo-Fi Techno whereas others do explore tentative, seeking and surely dubbed out sonic landscapes or even dabble in deep, washed out Post-Ambient scores to be found in cuts like "Pokoj Goscinny" just to name a few. Hashtag: #avantgarde.

Porter Ricks - Biokinetics [Mille Plateaux]

And here it is. The n-th incarnation of the formerly famed Mille Plateaux label, a 90s and early 2000s staple in Electronica, Clicks'n'Cuts and all things highly advanced, avantgarde and intellectual in electronic music which then somewhat disappeared after the bankruptcy of their main distributor in the mid-noughties and only was heard of in the context of several ownership disputes and other legal issues going on between their real and alleged founders also related to the short-lived successor Mille Plateaux Media. But now it seems like the label is back on track for 2k21, re-releasing Porter Ricks' seminal album "Biokinetics" which originally came out via Basic Channel's Chain Reaction imprint back in 1996. Now, 25 years and a gazillion of DubTechno releases later, the album perceived by Thomas Köner and Andy Mellwig under their conjunctional Port Ricks-guise is still a monolithic genre blueprint, following a sonic narrative that replaces the organic, natural swing of the original DubTechno scheme with cold static and innate darkness as well as a somewhat futuristic, ruff edged mechanical attitude which owes more to the concrete and steel environment of Berlin's original Tresor Club than to the sunnier side of Jamaica, especially when it comes to the twisted, swampy loop business of "Biokinetics 1" or the vantablack minimalism of the subsequent "Biokinetics 2" as well as the grinding, mind-boggling anti-grooves found in "Port Of Nuba" and the brittle, icy atmosphere of "Nautical Zone". Still a statement after all these years.

Hotel Kali - Hotel Kali [Antime 033 Promo]

Released via the Berlin-based label that is Antime on June 4th, 2k21 is "Hotel Kali" - the self-titled seven track album debut perceived by Hotel Kali, a German-Indian four piece band which formed throughout Theresa Stroetges' Goethe Institut- and Music Board Berlin-funded two-month stay in India where she worked and collaborated in jam-sessions as well as more dedicated and focused recording sessions with local artists and musicians, and formed a connection that exceeded the period of her stay. The result of this cultural exchange and collaborational effort is not only a new band outfit on the circuit but also a roughly 46 minutes spanning journey combining personal treats and musical voices of all its members which are, aside from Stroetges, Varun Desai, Debjit Mahalanobis and Suyasha Sengupta, all of them based in Kolkata where the sonic material was developed in a truly cross-cultural manner, taking the listener on a trip into the realm of Indian flavored ChillOut / Electronica with a well krautsy edge, drifting into the ease and summery vibes of EthnoHop, an intriguing, yet somewhat autumnal uptempo Indietronica / PostPunk cover version of Theresa Stroetges a.k.a. Golden Disko Ship's song "Fake Horse" whilst "Viola Rave" sets out to set all ElectroDisco / ElectroClash dancefloors on fire with its uplifting and super positive attitude and so does the more Desert Blues-infused Balearic Electro cut that is "Buntes Schwarz" just to name a few. Defo a unique one, this.

Set to be released on the digital circuit via SM Traxxx on June 17th, 2k21 is "Traxxx Vol. 37", the forthcoming digital two track single by Sascha Müller. Opening with "Track 73" the German underground producer explores a fast-paced variation of tool'ish, Acid-infused and highly effective peaktime Techno which would've seen massive support by DJ's like Steve Mason or labels like Rabbit City Records in the 90s whereas "Track 74" is on a proper elastic and ever spiralling Acid Techno-tip for strobe lit underground rave parties. We dig this.

Random Orchestra - Membrane [Teleskop 008 Promo]

Scheduled for release on June 18th, 2k21 via Teleskop is "Membrane", the actual debut album of the Berlin-based duo named Random Orchestra which consists of Xaver Hirsch and Oliver Gehrmann, two artists setting out to combine an eclectic sonic approach as well as visual works in their work. This being said the eight tracks on this roughly 31 minutes spanning firstling do cover quite a bit of a range when it comes to the wide general spectrum of what electronic music can be - starting from the cinematic Synth arrangements and chiming percussive layers of the opening tune "Inhale" which evolves into a hyperchromatic IDM dancefloor piece over the course of its runtime to the experimental 90s leaning Leftfield Pop / Electronica Soul fusion take of "Atria" featuring Giugiu on vocals whereas "Cortex" enters a somewhat tender and mystical Ambient realm for an intro sequence, yet unfortunately seems to go down some kind of eco-conscious rabbithole with its slightly muffled and distorted vocals whilst "Replicate" is all in for a more kitsch-driven happy-ever-after anime end theme vibe and even goes in for a UK Garage swing attempt in the final cut "Exhale" just to name a few to reflect upon the variety the Random Orchestra is able to touch base with in their studio sessions. Quite eclectic, this, and probably more coherent when presented in an audiovisual production context.

Axel Dörner & Richard Scott - A Journal Of Elasticity [Bohemian Drips 014 Promo]

Released via Bohemian Drips as the labels cat.no. 014 on June 4th, 2k21 is "A Journal Of Elasticity", the new collaborational album created, conceived and recorded by Richard Scott and Axel Dörner throughout the 'Speicher - Festival For Site-Specific Music' set up by the Bohemian Drips label in 2017. Using the humungous space provided by an empty water reservoir tank as a makeshift recording space the two pieces on this 37 minutes spanning album - "The Near-field Of An Accelerating Dislocation" as well as ""Discontinuity Within A Continuum In The Presence Of Electromagnetic Fields" - fully explore the vast dimensions of the Berlin-based location which well obviously adds a new, three-dimensional layer to the duo's improvised compositions which, in the first implementation present a stripped down, vantablack electronic foundation occasionally accompanied by yearning, siren'esque layers of electronically augmented trumpet, detailed electro-acoustic sound generation and what could be Field Recordings from exoterrestrial alien swamps whereas the second cut, a captured festival live performance, takes a turn towards a more intense sound aesthetic, weighing in ear-piercing sequences of digital midrange Noize, highly sculpted, flickering bleeps, robotic, sci-fi-leaning movements and an overall sense of futurism even though plucked strings and highly fragmented remainders of Indietronica and hyperabstract Post-PostRock occur before the composition is working its way up towards a short and heavy high frequency crescendo and what seems to be a warped, mostly Max/MSP generated closing. Proper good.

Hugo Race - Dishee [Gusstaff Records Promo]

Scheduled to be put out on the circuit via the ever active Polish label Gustaff Records on June 11th, 2k21 is "Dishee", the new, five tracks and roughly 42 minutes spanning album by Melbourne based producer, artist and composer Hugo Race who - amonst many other musings and a plethora of credits on Discogs - also was part of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and still is a part of the follow up Nick Cave & The Cavemen. Embarking on an explorative trip into the realm of what Race describes as '...ancient spiritual techniques...' in the accompanying press sheet throughout the Australian lockdown - including Sufi breathing techniques, yoga, mantras and whatnot - as well as suffering from sort of a family tragedy this new album is Hugo Race's very own musical exorcism, overcoming and a relief from all the hindrances and obstacles he had to face - and a turn towards a new mysticism and an inward looking aesthetic. Opening with the deep organic vibes of "So Hung" which would've been a staple in Buddha Bar DJ-sets as well as on Ambient / ChillOut floors of 90s raves and large scale festivals whilst the subsequent "iAmUr" dabbles with a droning, psychedelic and somewhat Pink Floyd-infused guitar sound before "FOA" weighs in a doomed, mysterious take on Desert Blues-infested PostRock for those fighting the monsters and demons found deep within one's own innermost core. Furthermore the 15+ minutes piece "Akaal" is a tantric trip into a contemporary interpretation of Kraut-oriented Berlin School floatations whereas the concluding cut named "Blue Pearl" provides a perfect soundtrack for late night meditation and self exploration in pandemic-induced isolation and beyond. Deep. Organic. Listening. Music.

Sissel Vera Pettersen & Randi Pontoppidan - Inner Lift [Chant Records]

So what happens when two renowned and well exceptional vocalists join forces to record an album of purely spontaneous and improvisation character, free of pre-recorded loops or electronic post-processing? "Inner Lift", perceived by Sissel Vera Pettersen and Randi Pontoppidan might provide an approximately 38 minutes long answer to this question. Released via Chant Records on May 26th, 2k21 the two artists combine their ethereal, oftentimes corresponding vocal skills with the sound of singing bowls and prepared zither as well as electronic live processing alongside occasional simple, yet highly captivating and ritualistic rhythm structures to create a solemn, yet sonically unique album bringing forth 100% of close up intimacy, angelic beauty as well as a sense of intricate, chiming and somewhat cinematic Indietronica / Deep Listening Music garnished with Leftfield Pop qualities in extended pieces like "Raindrops" or "Ohro" whilst cuts like "Traces" present charming, intricate, floating PostRock / Post-PostRock minimalisms and, when it comes to "Still Safe", seductive, siren'esque Ambient emulations for those who know. Recommended.

Cram Ration - Cram Ration [Rare & Treacherous Records 048]

Put out on the citcuit via the label that is Rare & Treacherous Records as their cat.no. 048 on May 21st, 2k21 is "Cram Ration", the self-titled debut album by the Teun Verbruggen-led trio collaboration Cram Ration in which the renowned drummer teamed up with Vitja Pauwels and Cesar De Sutter-Pinoy to explore a new sonic realm. Based on a combination of drums, various electronics and guitars the group manages to fuse a loose and highly improvisational approach, PostPunk x (No)Wave infused echoes of greyscale'ish Desolation PostRock and Post-PostRock, twisted, nerve-wrecking feedbacks, utterly fragmented Electronica and, at times, a good portion of Noize in its opener "Mevrouw Post Van Gisteren" whereas cuts like "Bidzil" provide ominous, minimalist sequences defo speaking to fans of the often cited project Village Of Savoonga or even indulge in a fragile, intimate interplay of near silence, stripped down, comforting, yet dark'ish guitar pulses and drums recorded from quite a distance as they are to be found in "Lye" to provide just a few examples of the meandering, ever evolving sonic environment brought to life by Cram Ratio in their intense, yet spine-tingling firstling of which the last cut "Sf > Si" might be our favorite for a reason. Released on May 21st, 2k21 as cat.no. 004 of the 2019-installed Eich label is "Nos Cadavres, the latest collaboration album cooked up by Jean-Philippe Gross & Jerome Noetinger. Recorded in late 2k20 the four tracks and 43 minutes spanning longplay piece is based on a foundation of Serge Modular, Field Recordings, mixer feedback, tape manipulation and several other compositional techniques oftentimes associated with Musique Concrete as well as a distinct form of electronic back-and-forth collaboration which results in an oftentimes harsh, dry and highly glitched out take on Digital Noize modulations, heavy bursts of compressed midrange frequencies alongside, or directly followed up, by brittle, intense communication signals from the upper end of the audible spectrum or somewhat tongue-in-cheek chirping and b(l)eeping, brutal HarshNoize madness whilst other sequences are touching base with Clicks'n'Cuts, outerworldly sweeps of unknown origin as well as unsettling tectonic low end shifts, picked up radio communications or modified power drills whilst the final cut that is "Cadavre 06" even dives deep into minimalist, psyched out Dark Ambient x Rhythm Industrial realms in its intro sequence before working its way up to a massive Noize crescendo and Plunderphonics resembling cut-up techniques for a braincell wrenching closing. Intense.

Maulgruppe - Hitsignale [Major Label 157]

Recently released, a little more than two years after the groups firstling "Tiere In Tschernobyl", via Jena-based Major Label is "Hitsignale", the eleven tracks and 34 minutes spanning sophomore album by the Jens Rachut-led Maulgruppe, the latest outlet for the never dwindling creative energy innate to the poetic anarchist that the man Rachut is. And yes, it is yet another trademark album for those in the know. Drawing inspiration and energy from the PunkRock scene that has been a welcoming home for Rachut ever since, highly energetic, 100% uptempo and yet less synthesizer- / ElectroPunk-leaning than projects like Alte Sau or N.R.F.B. used to be whilst sonically painting the world in dark'ish, leaden grey colours associated with PostPunk / (No)Wave and the desolate clouds of threatening, claustrophic fear and oppression of the cold war era - all mixed up with the lead singers unique vocal cascades reflecting upon the state of himself as well as the ongoing decay of society and digital age, all triggered and inspired by personal experience and research conducted whilst living well isolated in a secluded shed out in the woods. Probably not as accessible as its predecessor yet a well worthy follow up that will well speak to the innermost cycle of Jens Rachut fans for a reason. Or many.

01. Taylor Swift - Evermore [Republic Records]
It's been roughly six months since I've preordered the vinyl version of Taylor Swift's latest album "Evermore" and it's been well worth the wait, especially not diving deep into the streaming realm even though I couldn't help myself but listen to the "Coney Island (Lyric Video)" every once in a while. But taking in "Evermore" as a full body of work hits differently, the forest green vinyl cut looks and sounds pristine and bits like "Champagne Problems" or the bonus track "Right Were You Left Me" are, once again, immediate Americana / IndieFolk classics, "Gold Rush" even dabbles with contemporary, yet highly cinematic Electronic Club Music whilst "No Body, No Crime" featuring the HAIM sisters is an ultimate bop - and probably a surprise closing track for future DJ sets of mine. 100% recommended.

02. Logic1000 - You've Got The Whole Night To Go [Therapy]
Samantha Poulter a.k.a. Logic1000 is back with a new 12" released on the relatively fresh Therapy label, providing nothing but joy and a handful of bang0rz. No matter if it's the deep, groove-infused House x TechHouse crossover of "Like My Way", the ecstatic Breakbeat x UK Hardcore x Rave vibe of "I Won't Forget", the surprisingly Electro-leaning "Medium" or even the more tool-oriented, bass heavy Techno of "Her" - these tunes are tailor-made for pleasure and ultimate peak time (ab)use.

03. Mycrotom - Ratoratiyo [MKNG-001]
Tom Simonetti a.k.a. Mycrotom is going all in for his solo album debut on vinyl with this one, exploring an oftentimes poly-rhythmic sonic realm consisting of IDM, hints of Electro, various 'Post-' incarnations of Bass Music as well as an innate playfulness that cannot be denied. Plus: yours truly a.k.a. baze.djunkiii provided the line notes for this album which should be an additional reason to check it out.

04. Suburban Knight - Nocturbulous Behaviour [Underground Resistance 011]
Another classic repress from the vaults of the UR / Underground Resistance camp straight outta motor city Detroit which takes us back to the year 1993. James Pennington a.k.a. The Suburban Knight embraces the darker, moodier and well hypnotic side of Detroit Techno with this one, providing DJ's with atmospheric, yet intense, hypnotic and super muscular tools for the super late / early morning hours of the night when the crowd has turned into an amorphous mass of bodies on the dancefloor, covered in sweat and longing for nothing but the ecstatic state of mind induced by a relentless, ever pounding beat.

05. Ojah ft. Nik Torp - Notting Hill / Notting Hill Dub [Alchemy Dubs]
A nice 7" Dub find, this. Uplifting, positive, slightly psychedelic and yet accessible enough to lure even non-Dub headz into a bass driven dreamworld for a few minutes. A sweet little ting, this.

06. Digitalism - JPEG [Magnetism Testpress]
