Michael Foster - The Industrious Tongue Of Michael Foster [Relative Pitch Records]

Another fresh one put out via the ever buzzing Relative Pitch Records label is "The Industrious Tongue Of Michael Foster", the latest album cooked up by Brooklynite sax player Michael Foster which has hit the stores shelves on August 19th, 2k22. With the longplayer being split in two distinct parts, the first half "Part 1: Lididinal Fragmants" presents a set of hyperintense, highly detailed compositions incorporating both microtonal close up recordings of the instruments mechanics and amplified air flow paired with forcefully applied pressure and, see especially "Skins Of Satin" for this, gargling, partially abrasive soundscapes as well as dreamy, melancholic FreeJazz sequences in cuts like "Function Smothered In Surmise", even touches base with organic DarkAmbient for a second and provides some tongue-in-cheek melodic pleasures in cuts like "Following The Brush" . Subsequently the two composition strong "Part 2: Celluloid Nightmares" opens with "Vibrator Torture", a less than three minute spanning take on buzzing electric vibrations somewhat reminiscent of certain soundscapes once catered up by famed German Industrial band Einstürzende Neubauten whereas the follow up that is "The 3 Positions (For Jacques Rivette)" provides nerve-wrecking scrapings and other intense Noize excesses for those who like their Free Improv being taken to the extremes. Once again: Avantgarde as Avantgarde can get.

Mathias Delplanque - O Seuil [Ici D'Ailleurs / Minds Travel Series 015]

Released as cat.no. 015 of the Ici D'Ailleurs offshoot Minds Travel Series on September 23rd, 2k22 is "O Seuil", the latest longplayer by Nantes-based composer x artist Mathias Delplanque who's making a return to the label seven years after the release of his album "Drachen". Covering a total playtime of 55 minutes with all nine tracks subsequently numbered "Seuil 1 - 9" Mathias Delplanque starts out from a point of droning DarkAmbient frequencies accompanied by sparse tones of singularly plucked strings and a strongly prevalent, yet minimalist Desert Blues atmosphere, drifts off into large scale panoramic Ambient structures providing calm and shimmering harmonic pads in contrast to slow and creeping beats, works his way up towards spine-tingling, somewhat Cosmic and PsychedelicRock-infused Downtempo arrangements, caters sparse and spatial Deep Listening Music in cuts like "Seuil 4" whereas "Seuil 5" evokes faint memories of certain compositions by Jean Michel Jarre and even displays symphonic Pop sensibilities in pieces like "Seuil 7" just to name a few. This is not an album, this is an entire score laid out and waiting for the right movie director to pick it up for a fantastic, highly dramatic period piece.

2020 - 4 [2020 Records 004 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit via the well kept secret imprint that is 2020 Records as their cat.no. 004 is "4", the latest album by the artist and labels head honcho also sneakily called 2020. Presenting an extended magnum opus of ten tracks rolled out over roughly 90 minutes total playtime and diving deep into a realm of what might be called ethereal, time-defying Cosmic Ambient from the first ever tones of the shimmering opening tune "Tree Of Life" onwards this album provides a well extended journey for all dedicated genre collectors, in parts also reminiscent of a certain Cold Ambient approach oftentimes followed by artists like Dr. NoiseM, in parts flirting with icy swaths of granular noise floating over hostile DeathAmbient plains whereas cuts like "The Box" bring forward a steady, slowly evolving stream of warm and comforting, yet glooming Dark Ambient, "Cleef" drifts off into dense, washed nebulae of glacial sounds whilst tunes like the concluding "Buschbrand" once again hark back to misty, washed out pads and a sonic equivalent to a total visual white out just to name a few. Nice.

Julien Pontvianne / Abhra - Seven Poems On Water [Onze Heures Onze 043]

Released via the French Jazz imprint that is Onze Heures Onze on September 30th, 2k22 is "Seven Poems On Water", the sophomore album by the Julien Pointvianne-led ensemble named Abhra which originally came to life as a singular commissioned project in 2014 but continued its work as a multinational gathering of six musicians beyond its initially intended purpose. Now, with "Seven Poems On Water" Abhra caters exactly that - musical explorations of seven poems on this subject, coming from different corners of the world including the United States, India, Guinea and others. Rolled out over a total of roughly 41 minutes we find the original text based pieces transposed into a high pitched, ethereal and enchanted female vocal performance meandering between singing and Spoken Word poetry, backed by a tender and stripped down instrumental foundation-based on soft keyboard tones, sparse bass movements and a free-floating, timeless attitude rather reminding of an actual score approach than of singular pieces with cuts like "This Is Where The Sea Ends" bringing forward a dreamlike Ambient state of sound paired with intimate whispers whereas "My Entire Occupation" evokes memories of Nordic Jazz and misty air over Scandinavian fjords, "And Beyond Both Edges, It Is Still Raining" caters minimalist, yet emotional and probably even Björk'esque melancholia whilst "Birds Are Taught By The Snow" indulges in the deepest, yet most stripped down Post-PostRock x Future Jazz fusion you might stumble upon in 2k22 just to name a few. Go check.

Al-Qasar - Who Are We? [Glitterbeat Records]

Released On September 16th, 2k22 via the ever active and ever interesting label Glitterbeat Records is "Who Are We?", the global debut album for the Middle Eastern-located Psych Rock / Arabian Fuzz collective Al-Qasar after their 2020 underground longplayer "Miraj". Rolled out over the course of eight tunes and a total playtime of roughly 45 minutes the multinational group with roots in Paris does not only see top tier legends like Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth or the man known as Jello Biafra and others stop by for occasional guest slots on certain album tracks but manages to capture both feveri'ish, high noon desert vibes as well spine-tingling tension in their tracks from the very first second of the opener "Awtar Al Sharq" onwards which makes one think of lost cities and tumbleweed making its way across endless barren plains whereas pieces like the subsequent "Awal" provide an ever spiralling and climaxing maelstrom of hypnotic drum rhythms and slightly varied repetitions that turns every moshpit into a congregation of amateur dervish dancers and "Ya Malak" brings forth aggressive, militant and thundering complex drum funk alongside seductive and catchy melodic elements thrown at us by both vocals and electric saz. Furthermore "Hobek Thawart" taps deep into Arab x African polyrhythms and uplifting, yet intense female vocals as well as a killer mid-track drum breakdown that needs to be used and abused by contemporary Illbient x Mutant HipHop producers on the spot whilst "Sham System" turns out to be a slightly dubbed out, bass heavy 4/4-based instrumental smasher which is about to rock dancefloors from Cairo to Paris and Mumbai, "Barbes Barbes" walks the line between traditional Arab Spoken Word singing, heavy Rock guitars and contemporary Dope Beat x HipHop vibes and therefore is another candidate for big time crowd response and bopping heads all over the place, the sound of "Benzine" is as thunderous, explosive and high octane-fueled as its title and therefore is one of our favorites on "Who Are We?" whereas the closing cut "Mal Wa Jamal" pushes the energy levels even further with its highly seductive vocals and captivating attitude. Highly recommended, despite the fact that a majority of Western listeners might not get the meaning of the songs due to an obvious lack of knowledge of the Arabic language and therefore will most likely take the lyrics for another, yet well fascinating, musical element.

Hanzzo - The Crowd [Härte Musik 015 Promo]

Put out on the circuit on September 2nd, 2k22 via Härte Musik is "The Crowd", the latest digital single cooked up by German underground producer Hanzzo. With two of the four mixes of this release to be found on our promo version we see Hanzzo provide a thrilling and spatial take on highly functional, hounded and vault-like underground Techno slowly creeping up to noisy, ecstatic and flickering heights for strobe-lit peak time rave sets with the original version of "The Crowd" whereas the so-called "The Crowd *Knarz Maschine Remix" brings forth the most ultimate 'no bullshit' attitude with its relentlessly marching and hammering drums and an overall dark and monotonous, braincell crushing attitude that's about to wear even the hardest of Hardtechno fans down when blasted at them, even at medium volume levels, through a proper club rig. Hashtag: #deadly.

Tell No Lies - Hide Nothing [Aut Records 083]

It's been roughly two years since the Bologna-based quintet Tell No Lies, a brainchild of the groups lead pianist Nicola Guazzacola, released their album "Anasyrma" via Aut Records. Now they're back with a new longplay effort, the seven tracks and roughly 48 minutes spanning follow up that is "Hide Nothing" which hit the shelves on September 28th, 2k22 as the labels cat.no. 083. Once again operating within the diaphanous, permeable and pitted confinements of what could be roughly described as FreeJazz the group starts the journey on a rather tentative, meandering tip and a rather harmonic, more traditional and well groovy Jazz note with the opening piece that is "Malatesta", provides a hyperdynamic back and forth between orderly Jazz structures and screaming improvisational episodes in the follow up that is "Lule'" whereas "Junius" introduces innate, partially off-kilter melancholia in combination with heavy percussive outbursts before cuts like "Medea / Levante" reveal the subtle, tender and more melodic aspects of Tell No Lies' sonic exploration just to name a few.

Desolat - Elegance Is An Attitude... To Shit On. [Bloodshed666 Records 022 / Santa Diabla 016]

Coming in from the Nottuln-based head offices of the Santa Diabla imprint is "Elegance Is An Attitude... To Shit On.", the new nine track album by Viennese band Desolat which is about to see its vinyl release on December 9th, 2k22 as a joint venture effort with the Austrian label Bloodshed666 Records. Following up to the picture disc release of "Songs Of Love In The Age Of Anarchy" once again we see Desolat venturing off into the lands of slow, yet heavy riffing, growling vocals and brutal, blasting guitar melodies backed by a super heavy foundation of hammering drums of doom, providing a well blasting Sludge Metal / Hardcore soundtrack for post-apocalyptic warfare and death defying Mad Max'esque tournaments. If this, alongside track titles like "I Wish You The Worst", "Rollercoaster: Confusion Is Stable, Confidence Is Luck", "Deaf, Dumb, Blind & Grumpy" or the most epic "You And Everyone Around You Are Total Shite And Deserve To Suffer To Death. Hopefully Everything Ends Soon." sounds like a perfect score for your early morning routine - or: your nocturnal hunt for lost souls and lonesome creatures of the night - there's absolutely no way you do not need this record. Get.

Lukas Lauermann - Interploitation [Col Legno]

Scheduled for release via the decades long standing Col Legno imprint on November 11th, 2k22 is "Interploitation", the third full length solo album effort cooked up by Austrian composer and cello player Lukas Lauermann. Over the course of nine tracks and a total runtime of 35+ minutes Lauermann samples and re-treats pre-existing cello recordings, taken from compositions written for Robert Schabus' big screen documentary named "Alpenland", with various effects pedals and tape manipulation techniques, aiming for a state of sonic deconstruction and re-arrangement which results in a crossover of soothing Am- and sometimes unsettling UnAmbient from the very first cut that named "Fer" onwards, amalgamating hovering pads and dry, partially rhythmic creaking sounds in the most calming follow up that is "Ence" whilst introducing an enchanted, innocent and almost naturalistic vibe in the subsequent "In". Furthermore we see "Ter" emulate the sound of calm, washed out winds blown over from afar, "Ven" gets as scenic and romantic as any Score Ambient piece can get before "Tion" takes us far off into retrofuture with its overall vibe that evokes memories of places like the BBC Radiophonic Workshop which were surely groundbreaking in terms of electronic music production and sound manipulation. With "Ex" Mr. Lauermann caters another slowly meandering stream of widescreen Ambient beauty, "Ploi" pairs more glistening, melodic and glacial harmonies with scintillating glitches and buzzing background oscillations before the final cut named "Ta" taps into granular Cold- x DeathAmbient for a subtly hostile and asphyxiating closing. Defo one to check out, this one. Not only for fully fledged Ambient heads but for everyone with a general interest in textural soundscapes also provided by labels like the Norwegian imprint Sofa Music or the Greek staple that is Sound In Silence.

Chris Pitsiokos - Art Of The Alto [Relative Pitch Records]

Released via the Avantgarde-leaning imprint that is Relative Pitch Records on September 16th, 2k22 is "Art Of The Alto", the second solo saxophone album release recorded for the label by American alto saxophone player Chris Pitsiokos. Rolled out over the course of roughly 42 minutes and a total of eight pieces Pitsiokos fully explores the sonic range of his instrument starting from a point of amplified spatial microtonal eruptions and nerve-wrecking high frequenies to be found in the albums opening cut that is "Dolomite" whereas the follow up that is "Basalt" emulates the well unnerving swell of a siren for a start only to fracture and decay in a true FreeJazz x Improv fashion, "Gaddbro" takes a well surprising turn towards percussive minimalism, "Shale" brings forth intense, ever climaxing spirals of expressive madness whereas "Sandstone" delves into a series of squeaking, exoplanetary alien pulses and the final cut named "Anthracite" finally discovers a more melodic, quasi traditional Jazz feel for a closing just to pick a few. If Avantgarde FreeJazz is your passion this one might well find a way into your collection for a reason.

NO MORE - Kissin' In The Blue Dark [Rent A Dog]

Coming in from the Kiel based headoffices of the long standing PostPunk x Goth legends NO MORE which have been in the game for more than 40 years right now is "Kissin' In The Blue Dark", the bands latest and with a total of 29 brand new songs probably most extended album release ever. Released via Rent A Dog on October 14th, 2k22 the album sees the duo provide two different musical approaches spread over the course of this 2CD release with the first half named "Blue" providing a hint of panoramic and large scale personal drama from the very beginning of its opener "Berlin Soul " onwards and its dancefloor filling, kinda uplifting PostPunk follow up that is "Keep It Cool", drifts into tender, loving and ballad'esque beauty with "A Happy Place" as well as David Lynch-leaning dreamscapes with the title track that is "Kissin' In The Blue Dark", caters hounded, feverish and otherworldly over the top madness prevalent in "Adrift" whereas "Sleepers And Trains" taps into a whirlwind of slightly more electronic Minimal Wave vibes and another dose of driving, ever spiralling dancefloor goodness sporting the most seductive synth melody to be found on this album in "Joan In A Red Field". With "Dark", the second half of this package, the band brings forth a deeper, well cinematic approach with the opening Ambient x Score piece that is "Nightfall" followed by the touching, ruminant ballad named "The Sun, Henriette, The Sun", the playful and dreamy instrumental vibe set by "Descending" as well as the nocturnal Midnight Blues of "Chateau d'Herouville" whilst NO MORE are going fully Cosmic with pieces like "A.E.S" and even pay homage to German pioneers Kraftwerk with the pumping, yet atmospheric and washed out dancefloor smasher named "The Night Still Holds Temptation" just to name a few. Absolutely stunning and a fully fledged masterpiece. Get.

Mats Persson & Kristine Scholz - Stilla Sväva [Kuyin 003]

Scheduled for release via Kristofer Svensson's very own Kuyin label on October 28th, 2k22 is "Stilla Sväva", the imprints third ever album which sees two long standing veterans of the Swedish new and contemporary avantgarde music scene - Mats Persson and Kristine Scholz - tackle and perform two long form compositions written by Svensson on quasi ancient instruments over the course of roughly 43 minutes. Opening with "Sommarluft", a vastly extended piece split into a total of six movements, Svensson combines elements of European and - broadly speaking - Asian traditions and composition techniques which are brought to life by Mats Persson on a 1809 clavichord instrument which caters a calm, quite minimalist, surely reflective and inward-looking overall flow for cozy late night listening sessions alongside a loved one. The second piece named "Kori Kamandungan" sees Persson and Scholz performing together, a practice they've been used to for a span as long as five decades now, on a square piano from the 1840s era, bringing forth an intricately layered innate beauty and heartfelt romanticism in which the two artists move alongside their individual melodic paths in perfect harmony and intuitive synchronicity as if it was performed by one single entity. Innately beautiful, this.

Hanzzo - Raw Køfte [Lets Techno Records Promo]

Put out on the circuit via the digital imprint that is Lets Techno Records on July 29th, 2k22 is "Raw Køfte", the latest single release by German underground producer Hanzzo. Opening with "Raw Køfte *Original Mix" we see Hanzzo on a well raw, distorted and confidently monotonous, ever grinding peak time Techno tip, declaring a full on war on every ravers braincells whilst the subsequent rework named "Raw Køfte *THE D3VI7 Hart Angebraten Remix" shifts quite a few gears up and brings forth a brutal, almost Hardcore-leaning high speed Techno variation that only the strongest, fastest and fittest punters may survive. Pure bloodshed.

Steve Bates - All The Things That Happen [Constellation Records 167]

Put out on the circuit via the ever active label that is Constellation Records on September 23rd, 2k22 is "All The Things That Happen", the first full length solo album crafted by Steve Bates for the imprint. Informed by his love for and involvement in PostRock, Winnipeg Hardcore and Punk as well as his neverending interest in fm static and -noise sparked very early the nine tracks on this longplayer are rolled out over the course of roughly 39 minutes and see Mr. Bates on a explorational tip, dealing with and well processing sonic source material generated from the Casio SK-1 keyboard sampler to create an oftentimes off-kilter, twisted and distorted wall of sound which, mostly in its compelling background harmonics, suits the Ambient description, yet regularly crosses over into a realm of Noize, distortion and feedbacks that evokes memories of Shoegaze and Post-PostRock at times, with all elements moving and falling together in a way best described as OffAmbient x UnAmbient which, although soothing and comforting in a very specific way, creates innate tension and a more general sonic depiction of slowly occuring friction and (tectonic) shifts within our environment. Three tunes to check out: the almost static glacial pulses of "Covered In Silt And Weed" which later drift off to become an artificial emulation of tender, crackly and yearning PianoAmbient harmonies, the hovering, melancholia-inducing and surely otherworldly beauty of the panoramic Ambient cut that is "Glimpse An End" as well as the more agitated and well buzzing "Bring On Black Flames" which kinda speaks volumes of Steve Bates roots in Punk and Hardcore.

The D3VI7 - The Gate [Pulsewave Records 116 Promo]

Digitally released on September 16th, 2k22 via the Japanese imprint Pulsewave Records as their cat.no. 116 is "The Gate", another fresh one track single laid down by German underground producer The D3VI7. With the sole title cut that is "The Gate" we see The D3VI7 on a raw and unprocessed Acid(House) tip, providing a hefty bit of bubbly ultra-funk that would've suited any underground production coming straight outta Chicago in the late 80s very well whilst amalgamating this highly seductive attitude with the ever increasing trippyness of formerly beloved imprints like Djungle Fever for those who know. Defo an impeccable late night killer, this.

Schörken / Wittbrodt - Sea-Less [Umland Records 059]

Put out on the circuit via Essen's ever active Umland Records imprint on September 15th, 2k22 is "Sea-Less", the very first full on collaborational album effort cooked up by Hanna Schörken and Emily Wittbrodt. Following an improvisational pathway of creation in combining vocal and cello performance their firstling sports a total of nine pieces laid out over a course of roughly 34 minutes which are providing an oftentimes scraping and chaotic, well demanding journey into sound for a limited, defo Avantgarde-informed audience which is used to explore the outer fringes of an instruments limits with a musical ark going from extreme Free Improv to Dark Ambient-leaning minimalisms in tender, highly atmospheric pieces like "A Core Of", appreciates explosive outbursts alongside hints of Classical traditions buried deeply with "Between" as well as naturalistic, yet slightly twisted, melancholia-infused song structures in "Without Stand", embraces the unfiltered madness in the first half of "Years Could Scatter You" in the same way as the tenderly plucked strings and growling vocal utterings to be found in the second to last title track "Sea-Less". Difficult music for difficult listening, this.

Andreas Davids & Sven Phalanx - Dimensionsbrecher: A Tribute To Commander Perkins [Infacted Recordings]

Our man Andreas Davids is on a roll these days. Once again joining forces with Sven Phalanx in the studio the pair of artists cooked up a new album, a tribute to the once popular sci-fi series 'Commander Perkins' and a 16 tracks and a little more than 69 minutes spanning journey into sound. "Dimensionsbrecher", as the longplay piece is aptly named after a kind of teleportation device featured in the original series, has been released via Infacted Recordings on October 7th, 2k22 and provides a proper, somewhat retrofuturist dancefloor vibe starting with the brooding, vastly cosmic TechnoTrance of "Das Tor Zu Einer Anderen Welt", progresses into spaced out AmbientTrance with the subsequent "Mondbasis Delta-4 (Gleitflug)" which gets even deeper and more washed out with the ever so floating "Cindy's Theme", introduces spine-tingling atmospheres with the score'esque ChillOut cut named "Experiment 3788D" and caters high tension soundscapes with the Industrial-leaning Downtempo cut named "Das Geheimnis Der UFOs". Furthermore we see "Raumschiffsfriedhof" bringing forth a cute, yet catchy lo-fi melody hovering atop a foundation of hr3 Space Night-leaning Downtempo Electro / TripHop, "Verschmolzene Dimensionen" departs for a deep exploration of large scale Ambient with a cinematic twist and intense, reverberating ritual drums whereas tunes like "Sodom & Gomorrha" are as dramatic, pathos-loaden and apocalyptic as their title immediately suggests just to name a few highlights here. One for all you dedicated sci-fi fans out there.

Marina Hasselberg - Red [Redshift Records]

Scheduled for release via the Canadian imprint Redshift Records on October 21st, 2k22 is "Red", the debut album by Vancouver-based cellist Marina Hasselberg. Accompanied by a quadruple set of artists providing support on guitar, drums, electronics and violin Hasselberg tackles a total of ten pieces over the course of her roughly 48 minutes spanning firstling including six of her own as well as compositions written by the likes of Domenico Gabrielli, Linda Catlin Smith, Martin Reisle and Craig Aalders. Informed by vast knowledge and understanding of as well as a widespread experience within the musical field which lead her from classical training to adventures in early music, experimental composition and performance and even touching base with mainstream Pop artists at some point the music featured on Marina Hasselberg's "Red" is as diverse, going from the solemn Classical Music opener "Ricercar Primo" to the somewhat dark'ish, brooding and spine-tingling "So", the outerworldly Ambient pads and dronings of "Deep Blue" which are paired with a background of scraping, partially violent and explosive string bending and abuse which is nicely contrasted by the almost rural flow and innocence provided by the subsequent "Ricercar". Furthermore we see the title piece "Red" combine plangent, slightly off-kilter strings with buzzing micro movements and retrofuturist electronic bleepings, "At A Distance" comes at us with more of a nocturnal vibe and highly dramatic build-ups before the final cut aptly named "Things Fall Apart" presents more of a score'esque and grandiose panorama arrangement of tender, slowly Ambient-leaning pads and melancholia-infused melodies for a closing, just to name a few.

The D3VI7 - Blue Line [Sound Kleckse Records 348 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit via the long standing German underground Techno staple Sound Kleckse Records as their cat.no. 348 on July 7th, 2k22 is "Blue Line", another hefty two track single forged in hell by The D3VI7 himself. Opening with the title-bearing track "Blue Line" The D3VI7 explores hard stomping and slighty distorted Tech hyperfunctionality defined by endless drum loops, filters and a well hypnotic and bleepy high frequency main motif which would've moved many bodies and bent many braincells throughout the so-called Intelligent Techno era in the first half of the 90s as well before his "Cold Shaker" enters a realm of fast-paced, yet beautifully sculpted Techno with a certainly clean and futuristic, Detroit minimalism-leaning vibe. Top drawer.

Mattie Barbier - Threads [Sofa Music]

Scheduled for release via the Norwegian imprint Sofa Music on October 14th, 2k22 is "Threads", the latest solo album by L.A.-based musician and sonic researcher Mattie Barbier who, over the course of five tracks and a total runtime of roughly 45 minutes, brings forth another longplay release recorded under the influence of the Covid-19 induced lockdown situation. Recorded on location at the The Tank Center For Sonic Arts in Rangley, Colorado at x in an actual, yet repurposed water tank, the sound of Barbier's instruments, trombone and euphonium, provides a dark and droning, well intense and portentous feel from the very first moments of the slowly evolving opener "Untitled I" onwards, progresses into spatial, yearning, yet minimalist and slightly off kilter Ambient x Deep Listening Music with the subsequent "Filter" whereas the "Floating Wave" ascends from the earths deepest and darkest underground vaults only to shake and crumble cities like the ancients horns - or better: klaxons - of Jericho. Furthermore "Untitled III" provides a warm, all embracing take on resonating, soothing and sub-heavy DarkAmbient whilst the closing cut that is "Coda" immediately evokes imaginery memories of french horns used in the vast mountain ranges of the German x Austrian Alps to herald and initiate the forthcoming hunting season. Recommended for a reason, this one.

Steve Roden w/ Jacob Danziger - Dark Over Light Earth [Room40 Promo]

Put out on the circuit via the Australian staple that is Room40 once again on September 2nd, 2k22, roughly 15 years after its initial 2007-release through the American imprint New Plastic Music is "Dark Over Light Earth", the 34 minutes spanning one-track collaboration album created by Steve Roden in conjunction with violin player Jacob Danziger. With Roden employing a sonic array made up of harmonium, glockenspiel and electronics the sonic realm opened and created by the duo touches base with a rather, and rather surprising for a Room40 release, (Neo)Classical x Contemporary Classical approach with a few sprinkles of folks hyperabstractions, bringing forth a certain innate melancholia and thoughtful ruminance that makes "Dark Over Light Earth" a certainly worthwhile companion for deep listening session over the course of many dark, cold and long winter nights. If that's what's on your musical agenda these days - go check.

Violeta Garcia - Fobia [Relative Pitch Records]

Released via the NYC-based imprint that is Relative Pitch Records on September 30th, 2k22 is "Fobia", the second fully fledged album piece produced by Argentina-born cellist Violeta Garcia for the label. Rolled out over the course of fifteen pieces and miniatures providing an ark of roughly 39 minutes total runtime Violeta Garcia explores the sonic range of her prepared and amplified violoncello on her latest body of work, progressing from hefty, intense and well threatening electro-acoustic Noize treatments prevalent in the opening cut that is "Ahre Dark" to almost untreated (Neo)Classical- / Modern Classical-leaning improvisational miniatures, harsh and scraping treatments telling audible tales of the forces applied to the instrument in cuts like "Gravedad" or "Decidir" whereas "Lov3" provides an excursion into more minimalist, dramatic and nocturnal compositional structures when it comes to Contemporary Classical music, "Vieja" and "Evil" drift off into fully agitated, improvisational chaos and "Autofobia" focuses on a mechanical, microtonal, eerie and surely outerdimensional sound spectrum that well exceeds and transcends whatever a conventional listener would expect a violoncello to sound like just to name a few. Released on August 19th, 2k22 via the relatively fresh, artist-run digital imprint that is X-Static Dance Department as their cat.no. 003 is "Vol. 03", a new two track single outing by X.D.D. . Opening with "Free Fall" X.D.D. brings forth a foundation of pumping Minimal Techno with a classic Detroit-leaning attitude paired with hefty muscular HardHouse garnished with a twangy, tripping and somewhat balearic main motif looped into eternity whereas "With Love From Moscow" drifts off into classic original early 90s Trance vibes well reminiscent of alltime favorites like Age Of Love's 'Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Club Mix)' paired with the complex melodic versatility of contemporary producers like Oni Ayhun or A Saggitariun and therefore is an essential one to check out for every true Trance connaisseur out there.

Nabelose - Omokentro [Bohemian Drips 016]

Put out on the circuit via Bohemian Drips as the labels cat.no. 016 on September 30th, 2k22 is "Omokentro", the second full length album release by the duo Nabelose. Comprised of Ingrid Schmoliner and Elena Kakaliagou on vocals as well as prepared piano and french horn respectively the pair recorded the five pieces and roughly 46 minutes spanning album on location at a water reservoir in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin at the occasion of the imprints very own 'Speicher - A Festival For Site Specific Music' in 2020, starting from a place of eerie, otherworldly and well dramatic klaxon'esque soundscapes which immediately evoke pictures of both the ancient horns of Jericho as well as Robert Zemeckis' sci-fi epos 'Contact' before Nabelose progress into clanging, spine-tingling DarkAmbient with "Kern", combine all their sonic tools to summon a scurrying congregation of ghosts followed by dreamy, melancholia-infused ambience and solemn, opera-like vocals in the live piece "Walking" whilst "Wolf's Path" emulates the nocturnal score for a sacred, millenia-old ritual and the final cut that is "Amygdalaki" provides a scenic and touching fusion of panoramic Ambient, ceremonial scores and the echoes of Minimal Music composition techniques for a closing. Recommended for late night listening sessions, this.

The D3VI7 - Star Gazer [Stazis 385 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit via the Russian imprint that is Stazis is "Star Gazer", a new June 14th, 2k22 released single by the notorious underground producer that is The D3VI7. Opening with "Seaside" we're entering a realm of AcidTrance-driven, gooey and floating Breakbeat Techno goodness before the title track "Star Gazer" takes us straight to the heart of the dancefloor with its banging, ever moving, yet hyperharmonic PowerTrance attitude and therefore secures a place as our favorite tune on this one.

Geir Sundstøl - Studio Intim Sessions Vol. 1 [Hubro Music]

Put out on the circuit via the ever active Norwegian staple that is Hubro Music on September 30th, 2k22 is "Studio Intim Sessions Vol. 1", the fifth full legth studio album recorded by Geir Sundstøl and his first longplayer which sees him wandering off the beaten path conceptually. Inspired by a vastly international record collection he inherited from his seafaring uncle at age 16 and owing a part of its title to the fact that Geir Sundstøl recorded in a studio place next to a shady massage parlor throughout the early days of his career the six pieces on this half hour lasting body of work lead us into widely varied sonic directions starting of with the twangy, hippie'esque slide guitar-infested ExoticaDub of "Gem", fusing classic laid back Dub-basslines with ChillOut and hot desert night vibes in "Snik" whilst weighing in echoes of Downtempo and World Music in the extended piece "C'est Vide En Ville" which evokes memories of Boozoo Bajou and the likes of despite sporting seductive chanson'esque female French vocals before "Whole" rounds things off flirting with proper, yet twisted 70s instrumental song structures just to name a few. A well interesting, super chill and surprisingly bass heavy trip for a Hubro Music release, this. Lovely.

baze.djunkiii Charts 10/2k22

01. Istari Lasterfahrer - Inner City Fear: Special Request #1 Rewind Series [Sozialistischer Plattenbau / Stoopid Plastics]
It's been two decades now since Istari Lasterfahrer's major classic "Inner City Fear" was originally released via Stoopid Plastics and became an immediate staple for each and every avid DarkJungle DJ and collector worldwide. Now it's back, a little refurbished and cleaned up as well as accompanied by remixes provided by the likes of FFF, We Rob Rave and Terrorrhythmus which each add their individual flavour and therefore are a nice to have bonus yet the original cut remains unbeaten up to this day. Defo an essential reissue for all them proper junglists out there.

02. Various Artists - Jugotronic [Black Pearl Records 012]
What a trip this one is. With five tracks on a single 7" release the "Jugotronic" mini compilation caters tunes by the likes of Denis & Denis, Igor Savin, Davor Rocco and Vinil Desant, building a bridge between the classic, mostly unknown or unexplored proto-electronic sounds of former Jugoslavia throughout the late 70s and 80s and recent compositions by producers who already were around throughout those years, covering a musical spectrum from Funk-infused ElectroPop to thrilling ElectroDisco providing a cheeky homage to one of Michael Jackson's biggest hits ever, panoramic SynthWave and super dreamy ProtoElectro x (Neo)Cosmic vibes which makes this one a highly recommended, yet relatively pricey addition to every grand electronic music collection out there.

03. Phase O'Matic - Futuro Primitivo [Philoxenia 003]
Is it 1992 again? The relatively fresh Philoxenia label brings us a total of brand new cuts from the studio of Phase O'Matic , exploring a certain kind of hard-hitting, Rave-infused Techno sound one would most likely associate with the so-called Sound Of Belgium which used to be most prominent and popular in the first half of the 90s. Dark, untamed and cooked up for strobe-lit dancefloors.

04. Axel Boman - BAM! (Massproductions Dub) [Studio Barnhus]
Quite an intriguing collaborational 7" release cooked up by Studio Barnhus in conjunction with Swedish furniture company Massproductions even though we though we fully disapprove of the 'B'-shaped die cut in its sleeve because this thing is well likely to break, rip and tear apart and therefore ruin the single cover within seconds. Other than that we see Axel Boman on a trippy, complex and somewhat Jazz-infused Armchair Techno tip whereas the flip sees Massproductions co-founder Chris Martin elaborating on various aspects of furniture design and how he found his way into this field atop a classic, ever winding amalgamation of Ambient sequences and tender Acid modulations which make this one our favorite cut on this single.

06.10.2022 baze.djunkiii presents Die Gesellschaft Ist Krank Volume 2 @ Radio Flouka / Paris, France

For the second time around Hamburg-based Radio Flouka-resident baze.djunkiii harks back to the sound and sonic vibe of the first ever event series he promoted as an aspiring DJ back in the late 90s. Already drawn to the more experimental and leftfield side of the electronic music scene in these days the nights dubbed „Die Gesellschaft Ist Krank“ („Society Is Sick“ for a rough translation), set up in several small underground venues around his hometown, provided a home for an eclectic freestyle excursion into a sonic realm roughly defined by genres like DarkAmbient and electroacoustic composition, Illbient, Collage, Musique Concrete, Rhythm Industrial, distorted Phonk, Mutant HipHop and well beyond which still remains unmatched in terms of its uncompromising execution, innate darkness and no bullshit attitude up to this day. Listener discretion is advised.
