01. The Egyptian Lover - 1987 [Egyptian Empire Records]
The Egyptian Lover. Long standing pioneer of Electro and ElectroFunk. Fourty years in the game and still true to a well functional formula. Raw Electro beats, vocoder vocals, 808 bass and a certain amount of dancefloor funk for the ladies. Never change a running system. That's why this album sounds like it sounds like. You know the score. It's good.

Yellow6 - Searching For Your Perfect [Sound In Silence 125]

Jon Attwood is back on Sound In Silence. Once again. With his new album under his musical guise Yellow6 released on October 20th, 2k25 the Leicestershire-based artist and producer tackles the somewhat social media-imposed question of what comes after one has created the perfect piece, no matter if it's art, music, photography or whatever craft it is one might engage in. Contemplating on this question over a total playtime of roughly 73 minutes covered by eight pieces in total Mr. Attwood starts from a place of dreamy and minimalist PostRock meets Desert Blues with twangy guitars hovering over a stripped down suggestion of a rhythm signature in "All A Dream" which is followed by the deeper, more Ambient-leaning and pillowing pad-heavy textures of "One In One Out" and the calm, ever so slowly developing Ambient waves of "No Plan" which are as soft and soothing as a comfortably hot summers day. With "Lime" Yellow6 brings forth a similarly comforting piece of PostRock x PopAmbient built around a soothingly repeating guitar motif over an extended run time of more than 13 minutes, "See What Comes Of It" is on a rather inward-looking and thoughtfully ruminant tip leading into a panaromic climax somewhat reminiscent of classic New Age compositions, especially with its extended electric guitar solo hinting towards echoes of echoes of what once was referred to as Psychedelic Rock whereas "The Frozen Trees" returns to a softer, stripped down and most tender approach before getting full on nocturnal, subdued and minimalistic with the organic micromovements of "Stomch" whilst things come full circle with the almost acoustic feel the final cut "Yes. Closer". A most beautiful album which keeps one warm like a long needed hug throughout cold winter days. Go check.

Chaosmose - Minima Moralia [Aut Records 138]

Put out on the circuit via the ever active Italian Aut Records label on October 22nd, 2k25 is "Minimal Moralia", the most recent album cooked up by the trio that is Chaosmose which is comprised of Tony Costantini, Riccardo Zorzi and the groups head honcho Ivan Pilat. Combining baritone sax, trombone and drums over the course of seven pieces and a total playtime of roughly 39 minutes we see the opener "Insomnia" embarking on a nocturnal, deeply melancholic Slow Jazz journey with its sustained, yet slightly off-kilter and minimally dissonant brass tones, seamlessly followed on a similar path by the extended "Wandering The Cage" and its almost comical dialogue unfolding between sax and trombone on top of improvised rhythmic minimalism - and madness. Furthermore we see "Pseudomenos" presenting an extended and quite unusual intro sequence before tentatively exploring the realm of Free Improv and late night Jazz melancholia whilst finding some hot groove bits along the way, the also 9+ minutes spanning "Direzioni Ipotetiche" caters a densely woven web of layered, highly dramatic melodic improvisations culminating in another hot groove finale before the closing miniature named "Angina Pectoris" rounds things off with an intense Free Jazz x Free Improv explosion turning into full on experimentation after a sudden break. This is Avantgarde Jazz for those who know.

The Deep Bells - Liberte [Sound In Silence 124]

Put out on the circuit via the long standing Greek label Sound In Silence is "Liberte", the first full length album collaboraboration between Jon Attwood a.k.a. Yellow 6 and Jason T. Lamoreaux a.k.a. The Corrupting Sea who, over the course of 8 tracks and a total run-time of nearly 75 minutes, present their sonic take on the recent divide of humans and the darkening political climate in Europe. Opening with "City" the duo sets a surprisingly dreamy, romantic and conciliatory tone especially for a background theme of such gravitas and importance before the subsequent cut "Not All History Is Preserved" brings forth a brooding and ominous Post-PostRock / Dark Ambient fusion shaped by inward looking desert guitars and airy, chiming bells building a subtle tension of almost Morricone'esque nature. Furthermore "Pooled" sees The Deep Bells embarking on a floating PopAmbient journey, riding calm and comforting pads emulating small waves forming on a quiet summers day accompanied by a neverending stream of ever so slightly changing guitar modulations whereas "Shelter", probably the most soothing of all compositions on this album, presents, once again, carefully arranged variations of one single main motif for the PopAmbient crowd and "Shout Shout" gets back to chiming tones, this time backed by eerie atmospheres and what seem to be reversed guitars over a total playtime of 15+ minutes. With "The Falls" the duo explores a rather sparse and somewhat rural arrangement pairing plucked guitar strings, tender pianos and caressing electronic textures, all falling together in a way sonically reminiscent of late and carefree summer evenings spent alongside one's loved ones, "Time Ticks" delivers a glimpse into an almost Folk x Desert Blues-infused dreamstate musically and therefore might be our personal favorite on this longplay outing before the closing cut that is "Times Of Change" drifts away in a rather nocturnal, solemn and minimalistic manner, serving a tender and carefully arranged conversation between corresponding, yet at times spine-tinglingly dissonant piano lines for a grande finale in Deep Listening Music. Lovely.

Aniello Perduto - Segni Semi [Aut Records 135]

Another album released by the Italian label Aut Records recently is "Segni Semi", the latest full length outing by Robert Di Blasio's Aniello Perduto project which has evolved from a solo affair into a trio which sees him accompanied by Marco Porcelluzzi on tenor saxophone and Simone Vincenzini on drums and objects for the time being. Put out on the circuit on October 15th, 2k25 the album caters a menu of fourteen new pieces rolled out over a little more than 39 minutes, starting with the forceful and alarming air flow pressure of "Astrofischio" which paves the way for the intense and dramatic quasi-repetitions of "Amigdala" followed by the surprisingly calm and nocturnal melancholia of "Ciglio" which layers tender and sustained sax tones in a way reminiscent of klaxon sounds blown over from a distant harbour and therefore presents a thrilling take on all organic FutureJazz for those who know. Furthermore the agitated repetitions and variation of the main motif in "Dolore Interno Lordo" evokes memories of an exaggerated, yet humourous chase scene in classic monochrome movies with "Pallardo" following on a similar, yet melodically upwards leading path before "Nulla" sees the group focusing on building spine-tingling tension from a rather minimalist Jazz angle, "Drenaggio" strips things down even further and, despite featuring some certainly harmonic micro sequences, clearly approaches the genre from a spiralling, whirling and Avantgarde-leaning point of view whilst pieces like the short interlude "Radio Maria" emulate a lost and probably reprocessed decaying FM radio transmission, followed by the fascinating melodic Jazz spirals of "I Would Prefer Not To" and the final, yet well surprising, Field Recording of chirping, tweeting and chatting birds which is brought forward by the closing cut that is "Certosa" just to name a few. A recommended one for all fans and followers of Contemporary Jazz exploring things a little off the beaten path. Go check.

Dory Hayley - I Love Evil [Redshift Records]

Put out on the circuit via the Canadian Redshift Records imprint on September 26th, 2k25 is "I Love Evil", the latest 2CD album set by Vancouver's explorative soprana singer Dory Hayley who explores a set of pieces by Morton Feldman, Jordan Nobles, Katerina Gimon, Rodney Sharman and Cassandra Miller over a total course of more than two hours runtime. Opening with Hayley's interpretation of Feldman's "Three Voices" which sees her performing alongside two pre-recorded vocal tracks of herself over an extended playtime of 67 minutes, carefully layering her ethereal tonal shifts to an outerworldly effect which surely extends the realm of Contemporary and Modern Classical music due to its score'esque qualities and oscillating nature which might also resonate with fans and followers of hypnotic Avantgarde Ambient and whirling Deep Listening Music for a reason, especially thinking of the spine-tingling climax around minute 44ff. here. This rather enchanted approach to panoramic vocals layerings, this time emhanced by widescreen electronic textures and drifting atmospheric processing, continues with her take on Jordan Nobles' "XYZ" which presents a quite Psychedelia-infused listening sonic experience before Katerina Gimon's "Shadow/Light" brings forth an amalgamation of atmospheric Ambient and more of a Classical Opera-leaning take on vocal performance, with Hayley exploring fluttering high frequency vibratos and making use of her full register, in parts backed by a surprisingly rhythmic and ecstatic foundation whereas Cassandra Millers' final cut "How Weird He Must Think The World Is" even employs an array of disembodied whispers, conversational fragments and processed remnants of Spoken Word alongside heavenly choir sequences and rather noisy, aggressive and off-kilter outbursts dynamically overpowering the rest of the composition whilst emerging from the horrifying depths of the sonic underworld just to provide a brief overview of what fans and followers of Contemporary Avantgarde can expect from this album.
