baze.djunkiii presents: Clashment [Byte.FM Studio Test / 28.12.2007]

The mix you find here - especially calling out for all those Dubstep- & Grime-headz - was recorded throughout a live broadcasting studio test of the forthcoming webradio station Byte.FM, which is about to be launched on January 11th of 2008. The test run included equipment and monitoring situation check in the new build studio plus a few more technical details, so do not expect a perfectly beatmatched or 100% clean recording. Sometimes things were a bit sloppy but this is how goes it...

More about Byte.FM later, but watch out as baze.djunkiii is back on the broadcasting circuit!

Grime r_port vol. 23

Scape Music just released a series of remix 12“es of Pole’s recent longplayer „Steingarten“ of which Part 3 is dedicated to the sound of Dubstep. Skull Disco-head Shackleton retreats the track „Achterbahn“ and transforms it into some excellent, kind of MythStep-related tune but surprisingly leaves his trademark voodoo-percussions alone this time. On the flip we’ve got Peverelist remixing „Winkelstreben“, which seems to be a trial and error one resulting in error. Purchase for Shackleton’s workout.

All Grime-/ Urban-addicts out there are highly recommended to check out the newest CD-mixtape of a UK-based camp named Frontlinerz, which is called "Road Music - Special Edition Pt. 1" . The mixtape features all crew members as there are Jak Frost, Reciver, Gabsie, Lavish and more on a whole of 25 takes covering the whole spectrum from Grime to Urban via HipHop, DigiSoul and - surprise! - a few Philly-references. Defo a sure shot, so force yr local record store to hunt this one down for you!

Peace Off sister label Ruff unleashes its cat.no. 005 as double A-side these days featuring a Starkey's "Lupekickpush *Street Bass Mix" and Bong Ra's "Sissy Spacek" on the flip. Whilst the american producer comes up with an excellent ElectroGrime-cut and funny, skateboarding related vocals, Netherland's Breakcore- / SpeedHall-hero Bong Ra fuses tales Dubstep to another level of evil. Dry, heavy beats on a quite abstract groove thang are teaming up with darkest of basslines and reprocessed signals like taken straight off an early 90's Gabba-tune - get ready for hoovers, folks!

Straight from the Ghetto - News on HipHop, pt. 31

German HipHop-terrorists K.I.Z., originating from the Royal Bunker-stable, are entering the realms of BootyHouse with their new 12" "Spasst" on Universal Domestic Division. Heavy, but still funny diss vocals are accompanied by glitzy ElectroHouse-beatz provided by MinimalTechno-producers Dirt Crew on their remixes delivered on side A, while Tai Jason's versions on the flip refer to pathetic 80's Rock sample- and soundwise. All hands are way up - get the party started!

Taken off Jay-Z's album "American Gangster" is his new 12" "Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)..." which has been put on the circuit as red, clear vinyl promo via Roc-A-Fella Records shortly. A fat anthem this is without any negative or gangsta attitude - pure party vibes are provided here and due to that this is gonna stick in my box for a while. Check out!

New as well on the promo circuit is Chingy feat. Amerie's "Fly Like Me", due to be released via DTP Records / DefJam which is nothing more than a under-average, kitsch-loaden DigiSoul-tune that might achieve some airplay and will probably touch village girls hearts at highschool dances. Too much drama involved here.

A better one is Mary J Blige's new single named "Work That" on Geffen Records, taken off her new album "Growing Pains". To be filed as proper DigiSoul-tune, featuring a remix version seeing Busta Rhymes on vocal duties which defo is a good choice for a guest appearance.

Parts in the post, pt. 81

Kevin Yost a.k.a. Nivek Tsoy is responsible for cat.no. 077 of Dessous Recordings, which is to be released under the name of "From Parts Unknown E.P." . All three tracks featured - "Time & Space", "New Edison" and "New Galaxy Love" - deliver an excellent combination of deep, house flavored vibes and an hypnotic approach of what me defined as Armchair Techno, stuff that perfectly works in smaller, more sophisticated club environments as well as for homelistening pleasure. Check this one out for sure, you'll hardly find a record timeless like this one around and due to this fact the "From Parts Unknown E.P." is yet to be filed as future classic.

Ashtar DXD's new 12" "Bang Bang Bang Da Moneymachine" has been released as cat.no. 006 of the crypticly named haRT?de.FAKte-imprint recently, a quite avantgarde amalgamation of styles which are to be named as Breakcore and Industrial here, including some Noise- and DarkJungle-flavours as well. Dark and heavy as fuck and even more impressive if performed live as three out of four tracks include vocals of a political nature and that of course adds a punk'ish attitude rarely found these days. But all those being into genres as Experimental or (No) Wave, PostPunk or even the former Ingenious Dilletantes-movement might take a glimpse as well as those tracks might touch your heart due to a bit of LoFi- / DIY-attitude.

The former release of Ashtar DXD, a split release with Noize Punishment, was put out via haRT?de.FAKte as well and is on a much heavier tip. While Noize Punishment fuses the likes of PunkRock and raw, unformatted Breakcore to a certain extend and adds various psyched out samples to this mixture, Ashtar DXD - although they use vocals as well - stick to a straight uncomprominsing Breakcore-attitude and do not cross over to other genres.

ItaloDisco rules ok - now and ever! DJ Overdose recently released the single "Take Me Home" under his Dream Disco-moniker recently on Das Drehmoment and delivers a top notch, up-to-date blueprint of this beloved genre. Sing-a-long chorus, kitsch-loaden synth-sounds and electroid beats are the main ingredients of this uber-hit that perfectly fits in between idols like long gone Hypnosis and more commercial "Hot Girl"-Sabrina. On the flip of this excellent track we find "In Your Eyes" , another nice workout which is remixed by DJ Technician of Bunker-/Clone-fame and Speculator. Defo a must have!

Parts in the post, pt. 80

Tokyo-based Ryo Murakami is about to see his first full release on Dessous Recordings very soon after being featured on the recent „Dessous’ Best Kept Secrets“-compilation. Whilst the title track „Rise“ rolls out a deep, but still quite techy dancefloor-focused attack of the functional kind, the remix work delivered by the swedish duo Bangana on B1 takes another direction. Coming up with an epic mixture of Detroit-influences – remember Transmat and the likes of – and a bit of NeoTrance-vibes this one is gonna be a massive hit without a doubt. Finally B2 is Murakami’s „Monument“, which is techy and functional as well but on a darker, quite dangerous trip when it comes to athmospheres.

Steve Bug is back on track with a new double A-sided 12“ on his own Poker Flat Recordings imprint named „ A World Without / Cru Sauvage“. „A World Without“ on the labels’ cat.no. 091 represents the straight pumping, in-yer-face side of Mr. Bug who builds up tension to the max, using a seductive and hypnotic vocal sample and a bit of acidic high-energy madness. „Cru Sauvage“ on the flip presents a hyper-functional, bubbly bassline that is more Techno than anything else Steve Bug came up with throughout the last years and finally sets dancefloors on fire when the noise gates are opened shortly before a few House references are flickering through. Top notch.

.Shadybrain is about to release its third 12“ these days featuring two tracks by N.Phect – „The Sphere“ & „Ultraviolet“, both perfectly representing what the .Shadybrain-vibe is all about. Straightforward, technoid Drum’n’Bass tools of the darker kind, meant to cause a serious brock-out when played out. No more words necessary as all of u headz out there know what we’re talking here.

Parts in the post, pt. 79

Does anyone remember Desireless, that SynthPop outfit dominating 1986s charts with their massive single „Voyage Voyage“? Their greatest hit has now been covered by Belgium-based Kate Ryan on Zeitgeist / Universal, which carefully transfers the whole song into an uplifting Trance-flavored context that’ll surely work the crowd on the dancefloor without crossing the thin line between being commercial and being cheesy. Well done.

Moonbootique Records is coming up with ist 29th release these days – Ante Perry vs. Tube & Berger’s double A-side „Jetstream / Affentanz“. While „Jetstream“ is a nice mixture of ElectroHouse and NeoTrance-vibes which might well fit into what Umek describes as AstroDisco when it comes to his own productions, „Affentanz“ is on a more minimalistic, tech-housey Tipp, introducing a special kind of funk vibe to the audience as well as puzzling tripped out brains with some unprocessed ape sounds. One of the best Moonbootique releases ever, so check this one out.

Maik Loewen’s „Even If You Sleep E.P.“ is cat.no. 003 of Poker Flat White, moving dancefloors with three nice and deep workouts somewhere between late night Minimal Techno and more techy DeepHouse which will stick like glue in DJ’s cases due to their timeless approach and basic functionality. Works perfectly for smooth warm-ups as well as when a long night out comes to an end.
