Grime r_port vol. 22

To be filed under the flag of UK Urban music is the new release of Ahead Of The Game Music, containing Future Cut vs. Fallacy's "Drug Of Choice" featuring Virus Syndicate's Goldfinger & Big Wez on vocal duties plus Jack Beats vs. Fallacy's "Keep It Ringing" which has been re-fixed by Skibadee & Lethal as well as remixed by Bugz In The Attic's Mark Force. A whole of six tracks / versions are to be found on this disc that are about to satisfy any upfront Urban DJ around - if he's into R'n'G / Rhythm'n'Grime he'll choose "Drug Of Choice", if he's into straightforward Grime-bangers then "Keep It Ringing" will be the track of choice. Recommended.

Oh, how long I've been waiting for this track to be released on 12". Not talking Milanese's dark grinding, Industrial-flavored "Barry Dub 2007" which has been put out via Planet Mu recently, but its stunning flipside: "Double Face" featuring the amazing voice of Kate Kestral who delivers an amazing fusion of Dubstep and melancholic Pop music, maybe the best that has ever been up to this day. Do not check at your local recordstore, buy blindfolded!

Recommended to all Dubstep jocks out there is the newest release on Lo Dubs, which is South3rn’s double A side „Mangione Tribe Dub / La Rana“. Whilst the sparse „Mangione Tribe Dub“ refers to classical Dub / Reggae influences a lot with its typical offbeat sounds, rimshots and echoes, „La Rana“ is on a deeper, more athmospheric tip. Beat structures similar to those used by producers like The Others are accompanied by reprocessed Tabla sounds adding a hypnotic, voodoo’esque feel while the very background space is filled by a warm, analogue bassline slowly drifting along. Not necessarily primetime stuff but one to get anyway.

Straight from the Ghetto - News on HipHop, pt. 30

Put on the promo circuit via ColliPark Music / Interscope is Soulja Boy's new 12" named "Crank That", which has to be flagged under the term of Minimal Reggaeton vs. Baile Funk. Sick shit, that is based upon a sparse riddim and some ravey sounds plus shout-a-long vocals that are able to crank every mutha on the floor. Big.

Jay-Z's new album "American Gangster" hits the stores on November 5th and the first 12" taken off it is "Blue Magic" which has been released as promo on clear blue vinyl via Roc-A-Fella Records shortly. Beats are made for club floors and it seems like ravey stabs are en vogue again - the ones used here seem to be taken directly out of a 1991 Tekno tune... Nice and stripped down, check out.

Common’s new 12“ single „I Want You“, taken off his album „ Finding Forever“, has been put on promo circuit via Geffen Records these days. Will.i.am on production duties delivers a simple, smooth and laid back beat that functions well for old skoolers as well as in a Freestyle / Downtempo context that is not necessarily related to HipHop at all. Defo a proper one that will be loved by many DJ’s and – no matter if as full vocal version or instrumental – stick in their bags for ages.

!!! RUDEL RECORDS 002 - Scheduled for January 2008 !!!

Hamburg-based imprint Rudel Records is about to unleash its second release, which is definitely one that sticks out from the average music- and conceptwise.

SIDE A)
OSTINATO – Antiaircraft * Damp Silence After Summer Rain RMX by baze.djunkiii & DJ Da Cut

One for the advanced Drum’n’Bass-jocks and lovers of leftfield sounds is this remix for the american PostRock-band outfit OSTINATO provided by the labels head honchos baze.djunkiii & DJ Da Cut, which perfectly transfers the hypnotic approach of the original tune released in 2006 on their album „Chasing The Form“ into a dancefloor fitting shape. Starting out with a halftime drumloop provided by the bands drummer Matthew Clark accompanied by dreamy, soundscape’esque chords the tune soon drops into stepping, clearly Jungle-influenced beats of the classic kind. All hands are way up when the main part unfolds a deep psychedelic, hypnotic guitar workout on top of filtered sounds that seems to run for ages until things get a bit techy. A big surpise waits in the end which is not to be revealed here yet.

SIDE B)
DJ DA CUT – Fake Democracy * Rattlesnake MX

DJ Da Cuts’ solo tune „Fake Democracy *Rattlesnake MX“ starts out with shuffled halftime beats plus a seductive offbeat-line until gnarling basslines and a massive amount of layered ultra-percussive elements and filtered sounds release the storm on the floor, suddenly interrupted by a short breakdown that introduces the sweet skilled melody of live bass player Kazoo to the audience right before things get even darker and the final brock-out begins.

Longplay love 56.0

Flensburg-based DJ and producer Nightnoise comes with his eight track album "Taxi Drive" on Super 6 Records these days, which reveals his view on how straightforward Techno should sound these days. Quite tool'ish and functional but always spiced with some slightly ravey sounds, cool sci-fi athmopsheres or Detroit references - excellent stuff for 4 a.m. slots that'll hype the crowd well. Good work, boy...

Roger Armstrong's project LaptopAcidExperience is about to release its "Live Set 2" as cat.no. 004 of Säurebad Records, a non-stop 50 minutes journey into the realms of digital Acid and AcidTrance that features a loads of bleepy, but cloned 303-lines that might rule ok for the younger generation but sound a bit too clean and calculated for those who experienced the real Acid craze in the 90s.

Cat.no. 025 of Super 6 Records is Binaural Beats Projec't's "Uplink E.P.", which is serving a bunch of twelve tracks genrewise stuck between what might be flagged as Intelligent Techno, some Psy-influences and quality club-flavored Techno from the mid-90's, when things where more experimental, dancefloor audiences open minded and not necessarily focused on only one subgenre of electronic music. Defo a good album.

Parts in the post, pt. 78

Tomas Haas' "Track and Loops Vol. 2" is cat.no. 036 of Super 6 Goodies and to be filed under the flag of stomping, experimental Techno - similar to some early releases on Hamburg's Ladomat 2000 imprint throughout the mid 90's. Bleepy fun stuff for advanced dancefloors though, featuring one full track plus 4 .wav-files to play around for all producers and digital jocks.

"The Whereabouts Of 97" is about to be released these days on Alphacute Records, a Various Artists split-7" between Alphacut Records and Cold Coffein Addict featuring a whole of five - sic!!! - tracks by the likes of Drop The Lime , Nalpas, Mimaku Spldat, Amboss and CPU War which are about to be loved by all DarkJungle- & Breakcore-addicts although the matrix etching talks about sth. like Drum'n'Bass 2.0. Defo make sure to check out Amboss feat. Corrupted Files "Ausbruch" as it seems to be the most dancefloor functional and crowd rockin' tune on this cutie.

Alphacut Records sees the release of its cat.no. 007 soon, a triple split of Alpha Omega, Sumone and label head honcho LXC, dedicated to the more experimental side of dubwise Halfstep Drum'n'Bass - a style that has been promoted by the likes of Amit throughout the last two years. Alpha Omega's tune "Concrete Pillows" is a true roller based on bassdrum triplets and cold futuristic sounds, free from hi-hats or snares and scary as scary can be. On the flip we've got Sumone's "Rhythm Machine" fusing his definition of Halfstep with mystical voices, ritual tabla riddims and a deep as fuck, warm analogue bassline that'll work pretty well with all fans of swedish producer Seba whilst LXC's "Lock In" transfers his understanding of what halfspeed stuff means into the realms of Electronica / Glitch / Drill'n'Bass. Limited to 777 copies worldwide, so make sure to grab yours quickly.

Parts in the post, pt. 77

A fun thing from a novelty record point of view is a one-sided ElectroHouse promo that's on the circuit these days under the name of "Die Mit Dem Roten Halsband". Not released under the banner of any official label this one made me laughing my head of while listening to it first time as it bootlegs an ultra-trashy porn movie add in german language, melting it with functional, kinda commercial ElectroHouse-sounds. Not to be taken seriously but quoting "Dieser Film ist eine explosive Porno-Atombombe" might get you an idea about how funny this one is.

More funny music is to be found on "Fuck You (I'm In Love)", which is Sin With Sebastian's new single to be released via Lipstick Confusion Records these days. Some will remember them as one hit wonder that brought "Shut Up (And Sleep With Me)" to the worlds EuroDance-floors in 1995 but it seems like they're back inna kind of trashy Indie meets Dance-mood, they even feature a remix by Plemo of Audiolith-fame which is kinda cool to do, though. A new album is scheduled for spring of 2008 and their uber-smash "Shut Up (And Sleep With Me)" is to be found on this release as well. Time will tell if they can stand the test...

Quite a surprise is Paul Van Dyk's new single "Let Go" featuring Rea Garvey on vocal duties, due to be released on November 30th and on promo circuit these days. Although it's clearly focused on what we know as melodic Trance in all four featured versions some basslines are similar to what Mr. Thomas P. Heckmann once defined as "knarz" and there's even two mixes that can be described as TechHouse-related. Not exactly what I expected this one to be, but I haven't followed PvD's work for a while so that mustn't mean a thing...

Straight from the Ghetto - News on HipHop, pt. 29

Hamburg-based Schmuf Hamburg Team including Bo Flower, Temmyton & Schmiddlfinga have teamed up with Irie Revoltes and HipHop-legend Toni L for their charity single "Viva Con Agua" dedicated to the water charity organisation of the same name. Fusing Dancehall and HipHop stylewise the whole multilangual tracks message is clear as the Viva Con Agua-concept is about bringing water to thirst-suffering third world countries and due to that a support worthy thang. Dancefloor-working as well, btw.

Murder Inc. / Universal Motown have put Ja Rule's new single "Uh-Ohhh!!" on promo circuit these days which features Lil Wayne on vocal duties accompanying the master himself. Beats are quite techy and relexed at the same time so this is one is useful in warm up-sets as well as when it comes to prime time workouts. All jugglin' folks, get two copies of this for the instrumental.

Kanye West's new 12" "Good Life" featuring T-Pain is hitting the spot via Roc-A-Fella Records but not necessarily the worlds dancefloors as its definition of Digi- / PhillySoul lacks loads of energy and only is good for warm-ups or high school prom nights.

Longplay love 55.0

Imani Coppola is about to release her eighth studio album named "The Black & White" via Ipecac Recordings on November 5th, which is a fourteen tracks journey through diverse facets of proper - meaning: not necessarily focused on commercial success - Pop music including HipHop / DigiSoul-related tunes, straightforward Rock- & Punk-influences, stadium anthems and deeper ballads as well plus more experimental influences that might have appealed to her while taking part in Mike Patton's all star project Peeping Tom and will puzzle her followers a bit. But still - no-one says that Pop always has to stay safe in the middle of the road so if you're up for a little adventurous journey keep your eyes focused on this one.

Scheduled for November 26th is Martinez' second full-length album named "A Chemical Imbalance" , due to be released via the relatively fresh Re:Connected-imprint, which serves a proper menu to all lovers of deep MinimalTechno and mainly focuses on this sound apart from the last quarter when Martinez adds a few melodic stabs and driving hihats to his tunes, which - due to this - get a more clubby and functional feel. Conceptwise all tracks are melted into a non-stop mix by their producer as he refers to the format of the DJ mix as his personal favorite when it comes to listening to electronic dance music, an opinion that makes sense as Martinez' sound is to be found in a club environment rather than as a track by track homelistening environment anyway so this might be the best decision to transfer the meaning of his music into a CD album like this. So if you're into a certain kind of Minimal Techno, don't miss to ask yr dealer for this one.

Our favorite DeepHouse-imprint Dessous Recordings is about to release a new double CD format compilation these days under the name of "Dessous' Best Kept Secrets" which reveals a slightly new direction in the labels' politics which will be - accompanied by a brand new design as well - readjusted to a deeper route in the future after a few, more techier releases that have been out throughout the last season. CD 1, compiled by head honcho Steve Bug himself, showcases the highlights taken of the recent back catalogue and includes - apart from three new & exclusive tracks that'll be, alongside a few more exclusives featured on CD 2, released seperately on two 12" discs - tracks as great as the totally underestimated "Mysterious Conversations" by DJ FEX, Phonique's "Bang" or "Casualities" reworked by Morgan Geist which are about to enlighten the mood of all DeepHouse-connaisseurs that don't stick to vinyl anymore and due to that missed the opportunity to get these musical pearls up to the day of release. CD 2 is mixed and compiled by one of Dessous Recordings' elder statesman known under the alias of Vincenzo which digs deep in the crates and puts hidden classics on the tabel such as bgb's "A Crack In The Glass" as well as provides new material himself after a longer time out. Highly recommended to all lovers of the deeper kind of electronic musicas "Dessous' Best Kept Secrets" is not only your avergae compilation but a timeless statement of what the meaning of DeepHouse is, was and will be in the future.
