Frittenbude - Katzengold [Audiolith Records Promo]

They say the hardest way for a band is the way to their 2nd album and one might imagine that this way must have been even harder for a band like Frittenbude that experienced almost overnight success after the release of their debut "Nachtigall" nearly three years ago, an album jam-packed with hits like "Elektrofikkkke", "Hildegard" or "Pandabär" followed by endless touring and a request from Scooter to join them on tour as warm up. Which they denied afaik. Now their new album "Katzengold" is scheduled via Audiolith Records for may 28th and its for a sure good one, although it needs a bit of time to grow. Hits are not that obvious this time, Pop- and Indie-influences are more important, melodies as well, but still it's 100% trademark Frittenbude, the uncrowned kings of ElectroPunk vs. Rap. Most surprising and my personal favorite tune is additional vinyl bonus track, which I cannot name her coze there's no track info included in my whitelabel copy, but is a great love song anyway. You're recommended to get the 2xLP version just to don't miss this one.

Kavinsky - Nightcall [Record Makers Promo]

Those who like their electronic music kitsch-loaden and partly referring to the long gone ItaloDisco-/ItaloPop-phenomenon are likely to be into Kavinsky's newest 12" put on the circuit via Record Makers. Going under the name of "Nightcall" this one is truly a reminiscence to the days of innocent, naive, but still seductive ultra-synthetic Plastic Pop, whilst the additional "Pacific Coast Highway" might be mistaken as title theme of some long lost Miami cop movie - at least it suggests some action, fast cuts and special FX. On the flip Dustin N'Guyen transfers the already slow title track into an even slower synth jam, whilst Jackson's rework of "Pacific Coast Highway" turns out to be even closer to a movie theme than the original cut, not only due to the additional sirens that guy put on top.

Caribou - Odessa [City Slang Promo]

Caribou have their latest tune "Odessa", a piece somewhat in between shoegazing Indie and DFA-alike ElectroDisco, remixed and the result has been recently released via City Slang. The most useful and DJ-friendly rework is "David Wrench's Drumappella", a slow, stripped down to the percussive bone re-lick well fitting in between DC Recordings, Trus'me, some Edits and the still ongoing Cosmic hype - not an easy one to play but a connaisseurs choice. On the flip remixes by Junior Boys and Nite Jewel are to be found - the boys adding quite a bit of glitz whilst Nite Jewel are spending like one third of the track on a nice'n'deep intro part and progress into a sensitive piece of Indietronics that is to be played... where? Honestly this is not a club record but will appeal to fans of Caribou as all remixes are well-crafted and carefully transfer the vibe of the original version into other musical contexts.

Egotronic - Ausflug Mit Freunden [Audiolith Promo]

It's happening. Egotronic are back with their long awaited album "Ausflug Mit Freunden" that's due to be released via Audiolith Records on April 30th serving ten brand new tracks to their dedicated followers. But some things have changed although it's still the kind of energetic trademark ElectroPunk Egotronic have provided ever since. First of all - the vinyl version contains only one track - the massive "Die Sonne Scheint" which is my personal favorite due to its raw attitude - that is Egotronic
-only, all other tune are features or vs. versions including guest musicians / vocalists like Rüde and Ja!kob of Frittenbude, Captain Capa, Plemo, producer Phil De Gap and loads of others. This fact plus endless touring throughout 2009 might be a reason for another change which is a change of focus lyrically and musicwise - instead of a quite raw and pure approach of the last albums the musical backing seems more slick and detailed, not streamlined but surely more accessible. Lyricwise the anger and political attitude found on former Egotronic albums gave way to a more hedonistic point of view as there's only one tune named "Toleranz" containing a clearly discernible critical statement, quite uncommon as Egotronic has been known and loved for their criticism in the past. The state of Egotronic in 2010 - I'm quite curious if the next album (2012???) will steer the same course again.

Oliver Huntemann: PLAY! 03 - Live At Cielo, New York [Ideal]

Scheduled for release on may 26th via his very own Ideal-imprint is part three of Oliver Huntemann's "PLAY!" series which re-introduced the concept of the original live recorded DJ-set back to a scene in which re-edited or completely computer generated mixes are standard. This one is different. At first it's recorded live in what is regarded as one of the best clubs in NYC, the Cielo, and it has the raw energetic character only an original live performance on the decks can provide. Second you can really hear - at least at some points - how the crowd reacts to specific tunes which underlines the specific character of that specific night. Third - the selection stretched over two CD's contains loads of material to please lovers of electronic music indeed featuring tunes by Martin Landsky, AJDJ, Cari Lekebusch, Sycophant Slags, a collaboration between Oliver Huntemann annd Dubfire plus his solo tune "NYC (Keep On Playing)" that was specially produced for this compilation. Defo a proper one well worth its price, so if you're looking for another mix compilation to add to your collection this one might be regarded as good choice in 05/2010.

Backflash 3: "Die Nachtschwestern" Playlist Archive

Also on Techno.de is a playlist archive of baze.djunkiii's former radio show "Die Nachtschwestern" which was broadcasted for more than 6 years via Hamburg-based station FSK. The time period covered in this archive contains shows from 24.11.1999 up to 20.06.2005 - a lot of material for trainspotters to re-check and for those who're still asking about playlist of specific shows to add this info to home taped recordings or even still waiting for a reunification / rebirth of "Die Nachtschwestern" a heavyweight load of info about the progression of this - as I'm told - legendary show that has been gone for long now.

Backflash 2: Chart Archive

Another piece available via Techno.de is a - not fully complete - DJ chart history of baze.djunkiii's favorite top ten tracks from october 1999 to december 2005. So if you've wondered what has been in my box back in those days just check out these pages.

Backflash: Interview 12/2004

Didn't knew that this interview is still available online after more than 5 years - baze.djunkiii talks to former german electronic music website Techno.de on the phone on december 17th, 2004. Listen here! - and well, it was just after waking up after a long night out as far as I can remember...

Steve Bug - Flight 111 [Poker Flat Recordings 111 Promo]

Poker Flat Recordings is about to reach cat.no. 111 and it's the labels head figure Steve Bug himself to cover this special release with a double A-side 12" entitled "Flight 111". Two massive tracks are to be found on this one - "Metro Alpin", a thrilling, stripped down to the bone affair, ever evolving and pleasing the ones in love with classic haunting chord work that Mr. Bug already included at a very early stage of his work when still running is former and long gone Raw Elements imprint. On the flip there's the reasonably named "Outside Inn", a title referring to the fact that this tune is a reverse cut running from the inside out - a cutting technique that's rarely to be found these days. But it's not only this little trickery that makes this tune special - once again Steve Bug manages to create a hyper funky piece from a few, sparse elements only, a piece very able to work late night crowds right for now and ever, a future classic meant to be stuck in DJs cases for years. Essential.

Various Artists - Dessous Best Kept Secrets 2 [Dessous Recordings Promo]

Here it is - the second issue of Dessous Recordings compilation series "Dessous Best Kept Secrets" about to hit the shelves of all quality record stores on april 19th, ready to unveal a bunch of quite underestimated tunes that came out on Steve Bug's Dessous Recordings-imprint since the first installment of this series in 2007. Teasered by an accompanying 12" including three exclusive tracks especially produced for this album it contains two discs, the first one an unmixed but carefully picked piece featuring ten full length tracks by the likes of Ryo Murakami, Claire Ripley, David Durango and others to be loved by true DeepHouse connaisseurs. Disc 2 sees label head Steve Bug at the controls, serving a pumping amalgamation of 15 tracks including Dan Berkson & James What ft. Robert Owens' "Keep On", Moodymanc's "Omlette" and Langenberg's "Alternate Rhythm" amongst other tunes, proving that the labels specific DeepHouse vibe is well fitting for dancefloors worldwide. Defo an excellent mix and an allover piece well worth to fit in any House music lovers' collection.

Trentemøller - Sycamore Feeling Remixes [In My Room 001 Promo]

HFN Music sublabel In My Room, run by Mr. Tremtemøller himself, comes up with its very first release - remix variations of his own tune "Sycamore Feeling" served by Gui Boratto and Thomas Schumacher. While the first mentioned sticks to the chromatic, deeper and melodic musical vision he provides in his own releases on labels like Kompakt and serves a proper rework, Thomas Schumacher's remix version lacks of a clear vision, a direction and simply points nowhere - once heard and quickly forgotten. Check out for Gui Boratto's version only.

Dessous Best Kept Secrets 2 [Dessous Recordings 095 Promo]

Accompanying the forthcoming "Dessous Bet Kept Secrets 2" 2xCD compilation is this 12" on Dessous Recordings featuring three tracks produced exclusively for this compilation. First of all there's Tigerskin's "Voodoo", a quite epic piece of psychedelic House music inspired alike by Cosmic and bands like Pink Floyd or even The Doors and their specific use of electric guitars - a very special piece for special moments that won't be featured in your regular House set played by any DJ and his friends. Some experience needed to drop this one. The next one on duty is fresh face Andrade, who just recently delivered his debut on Dessous Recordings. His track "Merise" sticks out due to a quite special hi-hat groove and soma Ska'like background lines that brings that legendary novelty piece of Longsy D's House Sound to mind once entitled "This Is Ska" which was pioneering a nice Acid House sub genre some used to call Skacid. Mix that up with contemporary DeepHouse, subtract the Acid and the result comes close to what you get here. Finally Ryo Murakami is "Off The Wall" with quite a deep, dirty piece that evolves slowly but perfectly proves that a good tune can be built off a few carefully selected elements as long as the groove is running right. Stripped down to the bone or - as DJ Jus-Ed would probably call this "Deep Ass House Music".

Sascha Müller - Earthquake [Underground Pollution Records]

Another tape / cassette release flying in these days is Sascha Müller's "Earthquake" on Underground Pollution Records, a limited 30 piece edition on standard tape with a handmade and photocopied sleeve that'll surely remind some of our readers of the once flourishing tape label scene providing loads of Industrial, Breakcore, Noize or Drone music to a small but dedicated group of followers. And this tape well fits into this scene, delivering two variations of raw experimental underground Techno that seem to be recorded directly from a free running live jam in some wasted basement venue, run by cyber acid punks or any kind of squatting music fanatics. And although the whole release and attitude feels a bit anachronistic in the digital era of 2010 I wish there'd be more ppl and labels like that sticking to their ideals and fighting for what they believe in - a diy attitude and raw unformatted music.

The Best Of Video Releases [Super 6 Records 050.5]

The Super 6 Records camp continue to celebrate their 50th release with another, quite special compilation of ten tracks taken off their catalogue and re-releasing them as CD + bonus DVD package, featuring each one as audio and music video version including audio material by Sascha Müller, Michael Lambart, Toph Subderground and others. The main part of the videos has been realized by VJ Pharmacom plus two additional cuts by eVADE, both using - except of Duality Micro's "Diving" video which sticks out as the only professional seeming one - raw, underground techniques of visual art and cutting well fitting to the basic, down to earth attitude the label represents from day dot and it is very clear that this one is dedicated to fans and followers. Those who've been around the electronic music scene in the early 90s will re-recognize some of the tricks and trickery displayed and for some it will be a flash back into the days when those ruled walls of big raves accompanying fog, lasers and strobe machines. Watch out.

Endlich 50 [Super 6 Records 050]

Super 6 Records are celebrating their 50th release these days with 12 track label compilation featuring a bunch of established artists from thier label roster including head honcho Sascha Müller alongside the likes of Neurov, Symbion, Nightnoise, Kondencuotas Pienas, eVADe and others. As the labels musical vision is quite diverse this compilation is, too - Techno, House, Electro and some Trance are to be found here, representing at least a part of the musical range that Super 6 Records puts out. Recommended to those who like elctronic music in general, looking for a compilation that covers more than only one style and still serves quality instead of being indifferent.

Wolfgang Raspe - Fuck Cyborgs! [Super 6 Goodies 073]

Wolfgang Raspe is responsible for cat.no. 073 of Super 6 Goodies, a nine track piece entitled "Fuck Cyborgs!" exploring the experimental of Electro and Techno music. With an average track length of approx. 8+ minutes all tunes are epic and take their time to spread a cold, clean and kinda sterile vibe which could well fit accompanying some japanese robotech anime with a plot set somewhen in the year 3056. Very futuristic stuff and due to that appealing to experts only.

The Unknown Guitar Heroes - The Guitar Trax [Pharmacom Records 063]

Fresh from the Pharmacom Records-stable is the latest and afaik debut release of The Unknown Guitar Heroes named "The Guitar Trax". Basicly focusing on the idea of combining electronic dance music and lived played - ??? - electric guitar the intention of this release is clear , but the outcome of this attempt isn't very convincing at all as all of its components sound quite plastic and artificial plus they don't work well together. Defo not my cup of tea, but if there's a member of the supposed target group reading this review please get back with a comment and tell us what makes this one so special.
