Reviriego / Peyghambari / Trilla - Möhit [Gusstaff Records Promo]

The second album set to be released via Polish imprint Gusstaff Records on January 15th, 2k21 is "Möhit", the first collaborational album realized by Alex Reviriego and Vasco Trilla in conjunction with Iranian clarinet  player Soheil Peyghambari. Split in two parts and covering a total time of 34 minutes their improvised set, live recorded at Soda, Barcelona in February of 2k20, takes us deep into the realm of beautiful, floating and well retrofuturist SpaceAmbient / (Neo)Cosmic throughout the intro sequence of the first part before the first layers of non-electronic instrumentation emerge from the depths, leading towards a score'esque, yet more Contemporary Classical / Modern Classical compositional approach sprinkled with occasional, well lively influences of Jazz, especially when it comes to Peyghambari's take on his instrument and the noisier, noir'esque crescendo appearing later on before a new level of FreeJazz / Improv kicks in whereas "Möhit II" sees the triumvirate of artists gravitate towards a more solemn, mystical and cinematic variation of beautiful, free-floating Ambient improvisation.

Voices Of The Cosmos - Interstellar Space [Gusstaff Records Promo]

Scheduled for release via Polish imprint Gusstaff Records on January 15th, 2k21 is "Interstellar Space", the forthcoming longplay album label debut created by Rafal Iwanski and Wojciech Zieba alongside astronomer Sebastian Soberski under their shared creative moniker that is Voices Of The Cosmos. Rolled out over the course of 41 minutes "Interstellar Space" sums up and rounds off the individual artists conceptual approach towards a combination of electronic music and astronomy with the opener "Aurora Bis" paving the way for things to come through an amalgamation of sonic data derived from astronomic measurements and electroacoustic composition in a droning, outworldly Space Ambient fashion based on a swell of low frequency pulses alongside cold, sci-fi'esque background movements whilst the subsequent "Maser Emmission" showcases more of a slow moving, brittle, yet comforting Dark Ambient approach. Furthermore "Six Pulsars" weighs in a deep, touching and melancholia infused Synth Ambient / (Neo)Cosmic vibe layered atop hypnotic, slightly Ritual Industrial-infused background rhythm signatures before the closing tune "Methanol Flash" provides a vibe to be well appreciated by those still remembering German TV programs like HR3 Space Night or being dedicated long-term fans of Pete Namlook's legendary FAX +49-69/450464 label for a reason. Recommended.

Opening with the title track "Dilemma" the producer is aiming at the heart of underground dancefloors with a raw, hypercompressed and well distorted take on tense, shrieking MonoAcid whilst the follow up named "Streamin Black Hole" weighs in a frosty, eerie and somewhat sci-fi leaning variation of Death Ambient / Cold Ambient for an unsettling second tune.

Taylor Swift indulges in a dark story of love, betrayal and revenge in the most dramatic, yet also most catchy song to be found on her latest album "Evermore". This one is way beyond Alt. Country and destined to be a universal instant future classic with loads of airplay incoming - even though the topic of bloody vengeance covered up is not one for minor or even teenage audiences.

Taylor Swift ft. The National - Coney Island (Official Lyric Video)

Simplicity and deep melancholia is what suits Taylor Swift best on her new surprise album that is "Evermore". Plus: with 'Cause we were like the mall before the internet - It was the one place to be' the American singer might have penned down the most poetic line ever written for a song in 2k20.

User66758400000 - Slow Acid EP [User Recordings 019 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit via User Recordings on September 13th, 2k20 is the "Slow Acid EP", the actual two track label debut for User66758400000. Opening with "Post Slow Acid" we see the producer exploring a realm of deep, swampy and hyperminimalist SloBient evoking memories of classic 90s Ambient imprints like Interference Berlin whilst the subsequent cut named "Strange Species" weighs in well creepy respiratory sound masses in combination with bleepy, retrofuturistic laser sounds for a second sonic adventure. Nightmare inducing music for those who know.

Handsome Couple - Musik Für Ein Imaginäres Tanzstück [Umland Records 038]

The next chapter in a series of 2k20 albums influenced and sparked in their creation by the recent pandemic situation is released via Essen-based imprint Umland Records as the labels cat.no. 038. Named "Musik Für Ein Imaginäres Tanzstück" we see Simon Camatta and St. Kirchhoff making a return under their joined creative moniker Handsome Couple, presenting a menu of ten freshly cooked tracks as a follow up to their 2019-released longplay effort "Bochum Berlin", pondering about a new nightlife reality and dealing with the most recent situation in the only reasonable way - through being creative. What starts out on a well mourning, stripped down and somewhat melancholia-inducing tip with the opener "Trying To Survive" turns into a raw and skeletal basic beat foundation for fans of Advanced (Instrumental) HipHop with the subsequent "Ill Pil", weighs in pure b-boy / breakdance vibes with "Black Three Hair" which immediately turns out to be our favorite cut on the album due to its distinct overall drum sound and rhythm signature whereas "Liky Licker" amalgamates a beat paying homage to classic DJ breakbeat compilations with most beautiful pads and slightly twangy licks for a vibe. Getting "Lost In A Train" sees the Handsome Couple getting down with some vaguely Asian influences when it comes to the tunes meandering, plucked and rusty strings, the short sketch that is "Transition Hop" caters more of a tongue-in-cheek, comical overall feel which makes us think of drunkards depicted in cartoon flics before a "Miracle March" takes us to a land of swag and indisputable dopeness within seconds. Being "Naked On A Swing" finally weighs in some fever'ish, hypnotic and well funky high speed beat fire bringing on some both noir'esque and tribal-infused qualities for hounded chase scenes in classic espionage flics whilst "Gin Pur" is sorta staying true to that laid back gin'n'juice west coast vibe and "Going Home At Night" after an imaginary night out leaves us with a beautiful piece of music to slowly wander, probably drunk, off into the early sunlight of a warm summer morning in what seems to be a far distant future for a closing. Dope stuff - not only for Instrumental HipHop headz.

Geneva Skeen - Double Bind [Room40 Promo]

Released on November 13th, 2k20 via the ever active Australian label Room40 is "Double Bind", the second full length album created by Los Angeles-based artist Geneva Skeen for the imprint. Following up to 2018's "A Parallel Array Of Horses" the female producer caters a seven tracks and 44 minutes spanning menu influenced by, not unlike a wide array of albums released this year, what the accompanying press sheet describes as a 'cascade of heartbreak and uncertainty' which, from our point of view, most likely includes and refers to a series of events attributed to the ongoing pandemic that defined most of this years course for many among us. This said, the journey into Geneva Skeen's reflection of recent events starts with a deep low end pulse alongside brittle, icy and somewhat desolate atmospheres, probably extracted from field recorded winds over barren plains in the opener "Mirror Glimpse", goes full on sci-fi / cinematic with a hint of naturalism in the follow up "Leveled Ground, Bottomless Pit" whilst "For The Foreseeable Future" indulges in dark and gloomy, emotionally touching Ambient melancholia with a maritime twist and therefore presents a sonic treat for all those fond of producers like Kallabris and other likeminded artists. Furthermore "Urstromtal" provides a tender, scientific background drone in combination with softly plucked guitar strings and caressing piano tones for an intimate Score Noir meets Post-PostRock vibe before turning into a multi-layered array of mumbling, warped vocal tape loops circa mid-track, the dystopian title of "The World Has No Visible Order And All I Have Is The Order Of My Breath" weighs in a nightly, dreamlike take on most ethereal Deep Listening Music before the idea of "There Is A Universe Where Time Flows Backwards" comes in as well with a nightly, yet more Morricone-infused, score'esque feel slowly morphing into and merging with a droning wall of Feedback Noize whereas the closing title cut "The Double Bind" provides a comforting backdrop for all fans of somewhat brooding DarkAmbient which is interrupted and contrasted by short distorted zaps and somewhat unsettling, yet well seductive siren emulations seeping through into our (ir)reality from the twilight zone. This indeed is a deep one.

User33333998880 - Omega EP [User Recordings 018 Promo]

Put out on the digital single circuit via User Recordings as the labels cat.no. 018 is the "Omega EP", a fresh two track effort created by quasi-anonymous artist and producer User33333998880. The opening cut "Lieutenant Data Calling" is clearly referring to the Star Trek universe in its title whilst musically providing a hyper-fragmented stream of skeletal, digitally distorted data for the Post-Clicks'n'Cuts generation with the subsequent "Omega Runner" following up on a similar sonic lane. Probably the most experimental User Recordings release so far.

Como Asesinar A Felipes - MMXX [Koolarrow Records 043 Promo]

Run by Billy Gould of Faith No More-fame since the late 90s the Koolarrow Records label has released "MMXX" on October 16th, 2k20, the latest album effort by long standing Chilean band outfit Como Asesinar A Felipes who are coming at us with seven new and original tracks plus an additional set of seven remixes on this longplayer which is even including a contribution crafted by Dub-staple Mad Professor as probably the most prominent producer among those remixers featured. Based around a framework of turntablism, raw and dirty HipHop paired with elegic strings as well as a gritty underground street attitude and loads of intricate sample works fans of the Mutant HipHop genre might recognize connections to late albums by bands like Dälek whereas others might draw a musical connection to an attitude displayed in instrumental masterpieces like DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing..." - all falling together in an intense and well urgent manner sonically reflecting on the political socio-economic tension their motherland Chile is going through these days whilst the remixes are covering a stylistic range from HipHop-infused NuDisco / SlowHouse to obviously heavyweight Dope Beats, partially garnished with deeply melancholic synth lines and cinematic backdrops, tripping, ever stumbling Illbient / Crooklyn Dub and beyond. A well interesting one for the underground HipHop-headz out there.

Mats Erlandsson - Minnesmärke [Hallow Ground Promo]

Released via Swiss imprint Hallow Ground on November 6th, 2k20 is "Minnesmärke", the first ever longplay format Swedish artist Mats Erlandsson puts out through label. Based on a quartet setting with Hilary Jeffery, Gaianeh Pilossian and Yair Elazar Glotman on trombone, tuba, violin and double bass whilst Erlandsson takes care of 'everything else' according to the accompanying press sheet the two long compositions on this album commissioned by the Non Existent Center were inspired by and recorded at the former iron ore mine Ställbergs Gruva which is seen as a place of valuable socio-economic history and deeply linked to the welfare and changes taking place in the community surrounding it. This said, both the 19 minutes spanning opening tune "Vilja" as well as the subsequent, 22 minutes of "Slakt" are referring to this tension in their combination of Deep Listening Music informed, ever droning Ambient spheres and vast, slow moving, yet panoramic harmonic changes which are making up the majority of each compositions forefront whilst being contrasted by mechanical movements, Field Recordings of scraping metals, icy winds as well as other noises roughly to be filed under the flag of  'industrial', not in terms of a genre but more in terms of industrialized manufacturing processes, hidden deep in the background of each pieces mix to create a vibe that is about to be well received by Ambient headz, followers of dramatic (Neo)Classical / Contemporary Classical music as well as score collectors for a reason. Deep and filled with gravitas.

Mart Soo & Florian Walter - The Golden And Other Ratios [Umland Records 034 / Improtest Records 015]

Put on the circuit as a collaborational effort of Umland Records and Estonian imprint Improtest Records only recently is "The Golden And Other Ratios", the latest eight track album conceived by Mart Soo and Florian Walter who've been regularly crossing paths in terms of musical collaborations for the past five years now. Infused and informed by the theoretical work of architect Michael Sorkin and housed in a special conceptual cover artwork designed by Hamburg-based artist Maren Endler the two artists embark on a journey briefly described by the accompanying press sheet as an 'imaginery soundtrack for a retro-futurist space western flic' - and now: read again and let this sink in for a minute or two.
Spread out over the course of roughly 39 minutes their combination of guitar, electronic sounds and a well elusive new instrument named hechtyphone developed by Florian Walter provides score'esque qualities indeed, catering oftentimes crackly, somewhat cold and fragmented, partly even desolate, space- / sci-fi-leaning athmospheres evoking pictures of barren, hostile and bizarre alien landscapes, static-loaden radio communications, bring to mind memories of echoes of classic score works like John Carpenter's "Dark Star" even in tunes like "The Pleasures Of Liminality" whilst going down a dark'ish Score Noir / crime scene alley in the subsequent and aptly titled "Merry-Go-Round / Trespassing". Furthermore their "Quest" takes the duo deep into droney, somewhat ambient'ish and glacial atmospheric realms with the hechtyphone emulating and providing a additional layers of eternally yearning calls, their "Abstractions On Biogeneering" fuse a well abstract, yet emotional take on guitar improvisation alongside, again somewhat noir'esque and FreeJazz informed and partially melancholia-infused, hechtyphone lines whereas the albums title bearing closing tune "The Golden And Other Ratios" indulges in a warm, slightly twangy hyperabstraction of dusty DesertBlues on a hot lazy summer afternoon for a finale. A deep and touching companion for repeated late night listening sessions this album is. Therefore recommended.

Sascha Müller - Traxxx Vol. 31 [SM Traxxx 54-2020]

Set for release on December 17th, 2k20 via SM Traxxx is Sascha Müller's forthcoming digital single "Traxxx Vol. 31" which is following the artists usual path of catering two subsequently numbered cuts for maximum dancefloor pleasure. With "Track 61" the longtime standing producer presents a fast-paced, dry and flanger heavy take on spiralling Acid Techno which will be especially loved by the UK scene whilst "Track 62" is in for a distorted and well stomping ride into tripping AcidTrance territories causing a massive braincell overload in the minds of the most ecstatic ravers. Pills and thrills and all that good stuff.

03.12.2020 baze.djunkiii In The Mix @ Radio Flouka / Paris, France (2100 GMT+1)

„Rave Age Volume 3“ - a reflection of an ecstatic time.
Influenced by AcidHouse, NuBeat as well as SynthPop since the late 80s the younger – a.k.a. teenage - version of our Hamburg-based Radio Flouka resident baze.djunkiii attended his first rave back in 1992 and still has a special place in his heart for the ecstatic, uncompromisingly uplifting incarnation of electronic club music of the time which is well reflected in this mix, not only featuring a full on 60 minutes of proper R-A-V-E anthems but also baze.djunkiii's very own take on the genre, the „I Can't Believe 'baze.djunkiii meets The Crystal Apes' Breakbeats Dream Of '92“ rework he crafted for and alongside Hamburg's Metal (Not Metal)-band outfit The Crystal Apes which was released on Intrauterin Recordings as a limited 7“ vinyl single in late 2019.

Candlesnuffer - Eggs From A Vanished Chest [Room40 Promo]

Put on the circuit via Australia's Ambient and beyond staple Room40 on November 6th, 2k20 is "Eggs From A Vanished Chest", the latest album by David Brown a.k.a. Candlesnuffer who's been refining his experimental guitar techniques - solo and in a group context - for roughly 20 years now. Recorded by and performed in collaboration with Myles Mumford the seven tracks on this album, rolled out over a total playtime of roughly 46 minutes, are based around an improvisational approach towards a semi-acoustic guitar which, sometimes prepared and sometimes in its most natural form, provides a brittle, oftentimes highly fragmented sonic data stream of ever changing, sometimes busy and unsettling overall nature, paying homage to echoes of echoes of Rock music and strategies at times whilst compositions like "Anxious Pond" seem to hark back to retrofuturist, somewhat psychedelia-infused electronic music experiments of yore and pieces like "Moon's Seapage" head down a twangy, sub-aquatic Post-PostRock lane before the tune fully transforms into a grinding, braincell-wrenching trip into nightmare'ish, psychotic score territories whilst the subsequent "Chain Of Ponds" even touches base with mechanical Noize terror of sorts just to name a few. Intense and only for the headstrong.
