Talking To Turtles - Oh, The Good Life [Devil Duck Records Promo]

Scheduled for August 19th via Devil Duck Records is "Oh, The Good Life", the new album by Talking To Turtles which provides a journey balancing between sweet innocent and mostly acoustic IndiePop and folksy campfire elements. A seductive amalgamation served by the bands core members Claudia & Florian plus a whole bunch of guest musicians recruited by the Seattle-based producer Jonathan Warman throughout the recording process in the legendary Avast!-studio where bands like Death Cab For Cutie or Band Of Horses already recorded before. If you're following these pages regularly you might already have downloaded the song "Grizzly Hugging" given out as promotional piece for "Oh, The Good Life" and you will love all other songs as well, especially my very personal favorite "In The Future" - a quite repetitive but well anthemic sing-a-long piece of IndieFolk that is more than a perfect starter tune for this album, the melancholia driven "Short Stories Long" or the deep, intimate "Fingers Crossed". Guess this is one of the albums to be on heavy rotation in many many home stereo systems this fall - Indie girls are about to love it for sure.

Free Download: Clara Bow - You Got It

Clara Bow - You Got It Mix (unmastered) by Clara Bow

Unmastered still, but yet a nice teaser for Clara Bows forthcoming album roughly scheduled for september or october 2011. Having seen them on stage just one day ago I gotta say there are big things to come and this pack of girls is about to succeed. Plus: their album will be available on vinyl so its gonna be part of my sets for sure.

Free Download: Talking To Turtles - Grizzly Hugging

As a teaser piece for Talking To Turtles' forthcoming album "Oh, The Good Life" you can download their song "Grizzly Hugging" from soundcloud. Sweet sweet Indie rock and rumours have it that Audiolith's Supershirt are big fans, too.

Ewan Rill - Charge EP [Super 6 Records 066.5]

Ewan Rill is responsible for cat.no. 066.5 of Super 6 Records which brings us his "Charge EP" including three functional, well-crafted TechHouse-/Techno-tools which are - errrm - very tool'ish and just made for the DJ's out there plus a Sascha Müller remix of "Don't Forget I'm On Mars" staying on a tool'ish tip but speeding things up to a proper Techno tempo. Average.

Cook's R - A.M. Before / Spare Soul [Chillzone Records]

Coming up next via Chillzone Records is Cook's R which explores the realms of deep Ambient Jungle / Intelligent Drum'n'Bass with his track "A.M. Before" - a calm listening tune with some dark'ish bassline pieces that'll be working well with appreciators of LTJ Bukem's Good Looking/Looking Good-stable and related labels. On the other hand there's "Spare Soul", musically on a similar tip presenting nice string melancholia and dreamy pianos but based on a raw skeleton of Breakbeats somewhat in between BigBeat tempo and a quite oldskool '91/'92 ProtoJungle feel. I like.

Bluff - 2 x 1 [Shhhh Records 001 Promo]

A new label from the hardly known german town named Mettmann is unvealing its first release straight out of studio of label-owner Turgut Kocer a.k.a. Bluff who re-interprets poems of the Dada-related artist Jens Höffken on a limited run of 180 - collectors watch out! - 12" vinyl copies. Shhhh Records 001 contains two tracks for the tripped out audience - "Start" is a deep piece of Armchair Techno fusing warm, embracing string backings with, as far as one can get from the deconstructed vocal snippets, critique on literary circles and the associated system whilst the flipside "Als Ich Uschi Glas Ihr Zungenpiercing Abbiss" is on the same - although a little more lively - musical tip but mixing the deep vibe up with a quite perverted fantasy about the german actor Uschi Glass that might well appeal to readers of Sybille Berg or lovers of the ultra-precise language abuse of authors like Rainald Goetz. Recommended to those appreciating eclecticism and psychic delusion, the german word "Wahn" that means the same but can not be translated correctly in its full and essential meaning.

Sascha Müller - Krankenhaus (GOLD) [SM Traxxx 012]

Sascha Müller presents the next step in his "Krankenhaus"-series, this time representing the colour gold. Once again there are two tracks to be found on this one - "Krankenhaus (GOLD) 1" can be described as a giddy fusion of banging Techno drums, lo-fi'ish 8bit bleeps and quirky noises whilst "Krankenhaus (GOLD) 2" is a purist piece based on a monotonous sawtooth bassline and echoing, ever repeating deep space signals. One for die-hard Techno fans.

Sascha Müller / eVADE - Recycled Tapes Vol. 1 [Pharmacom Records]

Sascha Müller and eVADE are coming up with a new concept for Pharmacom Records putting a limited split release on the circuit that is recorded on old - yes that means used before - C60 cassettes. And limited means hyper-limited here as the first volume of this series is limited to 15 hand numbered copies world wide. This concept is very diy and going back to the old Industrial days when such concepts and limited tape label issues were more common. And so is the music as Sascha Müller starts his side with a sick piece of Broken Acid named "Beat Junkie" followed by two lively Electro workouts, a Space Ambient journey and some nervous, ever evolving Electronica-related beat trickery. eVADE comes up with a bunch of six tracks on the flip serving a mixed menu of Electro-influences, 'troity melancholia, slo-mo Techno with a ravey touch, NuBeat plus other things nasty, anthemic and defo able to move highly advanced dancefloors. Rare and defo hard very to find.

DJ Nightnoise - Other Side EP [Super 6 Records 066]

Another fresh piece released via Super 6 Records is DJ Nightnoise's tune "Other Side" which is a deep, spooky monster of a Techno tune about to please all those following the new wave of Techno led by artists like Adam X a.k.a. Traversable Wormhole, Sandwell District and the likes of just to drop a few names. This one could run forever without getting boring although the elements are only a few - haven't heard an atmosphere tense like this in quite a while. Remixes are provided by Michale Schwarz which goes even deeper and serves a relick that could even be described as solemn and gravious whilst DJ Pablishhh! works on a quite driving but still atmospheric level with distorted bassdrums and sharp, slightly shuffled hi-hats very able to keep the crowd moving on a constant level. The final rework is provided by label owner Sascha Müller who adds some tender background claps, jazzy offbeat hi-hats and some tripped out sci-fi sounds, trying to keep on running on the same vibe but still making some effective changes in the overall feel of the "Other Side". Highly recommended.

Sascha Müller - 12345678 EP [Super 6 Records 065]

Sascha Müller releases a Techno-related number song on his very own label Super 6 Records including a counting and motivating computer voice and a bunch of remixes served by the likes of Toph Subderground, Miss Diamond, Alfonso Padilla and DJ Pablishhh!, all of them ready to keep the he dancefloor moving on different tempos and styles ranging from Techno to ElectroHouse with tool'ish and simple but defo functional reworks. Not the best Super 6 Records-release ever but a solid piece for DJs.

The Crystal Apes - "Remixes & Versions EP Vol. 1" Review From Italy

Here's another review of the latest The Crystal Apes-release "Remixes & Versions EP Vol.1" to be found at the Bologna-based website Sounds Behind The Corner which is taking care of all kinds of "dark" music floating around and supporting the underground scene in Italy. Follow this link to check it out and send in a translation if you're able to read italian language.

Herrenmagazin feat. Frittenbude / Deine Elstern [Audiolith Promo]

Audiolith Records is about to put the next split 7"-single in an ongoing series of collectors items on the circuit soon , a shared vinyl release seeing the IndiePop-outfit Herrenmagazin teaming up with the major force of Frittenbude on the surprisingly deep, mellow and romantic-sounding dance-ballad "Durch Diese Nächte" whilst the Berlin-based project Deine Elstern describe the tripped out totally exhausted feeling of a post-rave / post-afterhour way back home after an endless insomniac clubbing adventure. Although their sound is a bit hollow their tune "Augen Zu" might be a fitting closing song or, especially in Berlin, a perfect 4 p.m. anthem for ketamine-kids and their associated posse.

baze.djunkiii Charts 07/2011

01. Darkhouse Family - Stabwound / CRST - Redeye [Catapult 001]
A new label and it's starting with a little musical bomb. Darkhouse Family is celebrating the relatively new style named Future Garage, fusing halftime beats with a classical UK Garage-feel, whilst CRST, well known for his anthemic tunes released via Ten Thousand Yen, comes up with another classy banger, somewhat in between Future- and bass heavy SpeedGarage. Get it.

02. Patrick Chardronnet - Pleasant Day [Audiomatique Recordings 045 Promo]
See review for details...

03. The Age Of Love *Dubstep Mixes [BOOTLEG]
Usually I'm not the biggest fan of testosterone-driven sawtooth basslines in Dubstep but these - obviously un-official - reworks by Subscape, Syndaesia and Ed Solo taking care of the Techno/Trance evergreen "Age Of Love" are defo a huge exception from the norm as they pay loads of respect to the original vibe whilst tearing the dancefloor crowd apart. Huge tunes for special prime time moments.

04. Tevo Howards - Beautiful Granville Days Vol.1 [Tevo Howard Recordings]
What a beautiful title for this beautiful little blue see-through 7" record featuring one track - the same one on each side of the record - by Mr. Tevo Howard on his very own label. But instead of pleasing his DeepHouse-loving fellowship this one is different, serving a warm and embracing piece best described as Ambient Electro for those who know. Deep, calm and perfect for homelistening sessions.

05. Niteffect [ Kreislauf 100 Promo]
See review for details...

06. Captain Capa - Saved My Life [Audiolith Promo]
See review for details...

07. Champion - Motherboard EP [Hardrive Records 004]
This one is quite astounding. Whilst the title track is pleasing all those longing for a tool'ish piece of UK Funky with a typically bitcrushed main theme both "Lose Control" and "Tribal Affair VIP" celebrate the return of Sublow, serving a sound not too far away from tunes like DMZ's "Mawo Dub" and other releases on the legendary Big Apple Music-imprint. Is it time for a Sublow revival yet?

08. Rrose - Primary Evidence [Sandwell District 016]
The Sandwell District-imprint is loved by many for its clear and uncompromising vision of what can be called the new or next wave of Techno purism becoming bigger and bigger these days like a force breaking free from the Minimalism and TechHouse of the last decade. The A-side track "Secretion" is such a purist piece, slightly influenced by DubTechno but more thrilling and opening dirty noise and feedback gates, unvealing a dark, hypnotic spiral of mind tripping experience for those who know. "Bare Hand" on the flip can be filed under the flag of acidic, ever evolving ClubTechno, modulating from here to nowhere and back, never reaching its final destination but taking punters a step forward in their journey through the night.

09. Vincenzo & Talking Props - Seduction [Dessous Recordings 104]
Taken from Vincenzo's recent album "Seduction" is a sweet piece of DeepHouse music, nice but not very spectacular or astounding, partly tool'ish but warm, timeless and uplifting, perfectly crafted and well fitting for terraces or tiny little clubs with an experienced audience. And so are the remixes by Jimpster who's serving a more prime-time'ish refix, speeding up the whole thing and adding a lively frolicking bassline whilst the Tuff City Kids act more playful, 'troity and with a driving discoid snare and some more cowbell, clap and effect wizzardry reminiscing old Chicago days.

10. P Money & Blacks feat. Slickman - Boo You / TRC - Oo Aa Ee [Butterz 007]
Butterz is bringing back UK Garage. Classic beats and vibes, new tunes though. A revival move that has been overdue for years and a 12" that will be loved not only by those who've been promoting and spinning UK Garage from day dot.
