Act Like You Understand [Handicap Records 001]

Breakcore is still alive and according to this 7-track compilation put on the circuit via Handicap Records it's not only alive but lively as fuck. Tracks are provided by Doormouse, Stallio, Roundop Ready vs Rektal Distortion - what a name!!! -, Killjoy, Vala V and Handbag/Abba which is the only one asked to deliver a double feature on this piece that is most likely to be filed under the "Breakcore MashUp"-flag although not all tracks fit in as there are pure Breakcore / Freetekno tunes to be found as well. Honestly the Mashup side of Breakcore is a genre I've never been a big fan of, but I gotta admit that all these tracks are that kind of clever, well crafted and humourous that - at least in this case - I gotta change my mind on this topic. Fully recommended if you wanna smash your local dancefloor.

Ensemble Du Verre - Versions, Vibes & Remixes [Batterie Records 009]

Recently released via Batterie Records as their cat.no. 009 is the newest longplay output of Ensemble Du Verre entitled "Versions, Vibes & Remixes", a ten track album walking the path between Slow Motion Jazz, NuJazz and expert improvisation, most of it played live or at least very live-sounding, a warm cocoon made out of music, recommended for chill late summer nights and one or two bottles of wine.

Love Parade Death Toll

It's been allover the news that yesterdays Love Parade ended up with 19 dead and 300+ wounded and injured after panic and hysteria in a tunnel that was meant to be the only - !!! - entrance to the closing party area, big enough for about 350.000 people. Having attended the Love Parade three times in its mid-90's heydays, having been actively involved in running a float at a Fuck Parade - for those who don't know, the Fuck Parade was an alternative parade stemming from the Berlin Hardcore / Gabba underground featuring all kinds of hard, dark or experimental electronic music and was taking place in Berlin at the same weekend as the Love Parade - about ten years ago plus having set up several parties in which way more people than the clubs capacity wanted to get in so the doors had to be closed while a few hundred people were waiting outside, with all that experience plus having seen the desastrous tunnel on TV, seen area plans and read the news throughout the last 24 hours all I can say that I truly think the ones who blame the promoter and his planning team for the catastrophe are absolutely right. They totally underestimated how a mass amount of ravers willing to party, no matter if drunk, drugged or sober, acts or reacts, and one of the planning team even said that no-one could reckon that people are stumbling or even falling down in the tunnel. No-one? I mean there are 1+ million people dancing, drinking and drugging on the street, in the sun, all day long, a lot of them exhausted and/or dehydrated, some overdosed or dead drunk and all of them want to get in to the final party. But the promoters think they're about to behave as thoughtful as retirees on a hiking holiday? Come back to reality and stand in for your mistakes...

The Happy End - Echoes of Jericho [Festplatten]

What a surpise to see the long gone Festplatten-imprint back on track after more than two years of silence. And it's even a bigger surprise to see that label, which was known for its more leftfield view on Minimal Techno and related genres, coming up with an album that is to be filed under the flag of Psychedelic Shoegazing IndieNoise or whatever you wanna name it. It is what it is and it's basicly former members of bands like Beige GT, MioMyo, Seasidestars and Sexo Y Droga gathering under the alias of The Happy End for something new, a kinda artsy, feedback driven interpretation of Rock music that is well influenced by the dirty DIY-aesthetics of Grunge and drugged out vocal harmonics of all those late-60's/ early 70's bands the hippies deeply fell for. Autumnal music for part-time introverted people.

Talla 2XLC - The Spirits Within [Tetsuo 116]

Cat.no. 116 of Tetsuo is Talla 2XLC's "The Spirits Within" which is served in two different variations here. The Ummet Ozcan Mix hits the dancefloor crowd with banging bassdrums, a dreamy, slow build up which ends up in a unexpected breakdown building up tension forever until a final snare roll and a change of mood bring relief and joy. The Dito Mix on the flip starts with bassdrums even more compressed and is to be described as a TechTrance-tune for late night use which even Techno jocks can deal with coze the use of melodies is quite decent and the midtune break ain't that epic and string loaden as one might expect in your average Trance piece. Good one.

Talla 2XLC vs Robert Burian - Pro Life [Addicted To Trance 003]

Tetsuo sister label Addicted To Trance have put out their third release recently which is a collaborational work between Talla 2XLC and Robert Burian named "Pro Life". The so-called "Club Mix" is to be found on the A-side, melting a bit of techy attitude and epic Trance with huge breakdowns, the "Tempo Giusto Remix" comes up with more drive, a bigger bassline, ravey attitude and focuses on uplifting melody and string arrangements whilst the final Akira Kayosa Remix speeds up a bit and serves a mixture of Melodic- and HardTrance with huge string arrangements and a commercial, well mid- to late-90s feeling that seems a bit dated in 2010. One for those still sticking to the age of massive street parades and live TV broadcasts of those events allover the world.

Kasper Bjørke - Heaven [Hfn Music 005 Promo]

Taken off his recent album "Standing On Top Of Utopia" is Kasper Bjørke's latest 12" "Heaven" which is due for release via Hfn Music soon. The A-side remix is provided by Prins Thomas, serving a dreamy, hot summer flavored interpretation with characteristic offbeat guitars with his "Diskomiks" that is surely to be well appreciated by all Cosmic jocks around. Muzzle Flash's relick is the first to be found on the flip, coming up with a more housy vibe whilst Nicolas Jaar serves the deepest, most fragile variation here including the nicest piano playing heard on top of a decent 4/4 backing in ages.

Larse - I Got A Feeling [We Love This 003 Promo]

We Love This are back with their cat.no. 003, bringing up a 12" for all those who love their serious bit of kitsch invlvd in House music. The original version of "I Got A Feeling" is to be filed under the DiscoHouse flag, providing ecstatic, anthemic vibes underlined by the use of Hi-NRG female vocals. Hamburg's Solumun comes up with a relick on the flip, converting the whole thing into a nice, more stripped-down piece to be loved by those following labels like Innervision or Compost Black, mostly leaving out the vocals and using only a kind of jacking bassline and some strings to create a positive tension released only by short breakdowns seeing all ravers hands up in the air for sure. Having a look at the additional tune "Off The Ground" we've got another piece of - this time slowed down - DiscoHouse rolling out, which is working best at the very end of a long night out, sending people home calm and safely.

Loop Hotel - Room 201 / Room 202 [Loop Hotel 002]

The mysterious Loop Hotel-imprint is back after quite a while of silence, serving serious dancefloor fodder with two new tracks named "Room 201" / "Room 202". Whilst the first one of these two is quite a tense primetime piece slightly referring to Acid-influences as well as to athmospheric jack tracks brought up by Mr. Steve Bug in his very early Raw Influence-era and later on continued on a warmer, more athmospheric level with tracks like "You Make Me Feel", the variation "Room 202" is a kind of slow glitzy but still acidic builder, reduced but pumping House music that keeps late night floors busy with a somewhat sexy vibe.

Ira Atari & Rampue - Just Fu**in Dance It [Audiolith]

Finally it's here. The long awaited debut album of Ira Atari & Rampue has just been released via Hamburgs finest Audiolith Records under the name of "Just Fu**in Dance It" and it's going to be loved allover. As mentioned before the unique voice of Ira Atari is the next big thing and on top of Rampue's electronic backing it comes out as undenyable Future Pop sensation getting everyone hype - no matter if it's the ElectroPunk youth or those being highly addicted to 80's flavored DancePop or ItaloDisco which clearly influenced Ira Atari in her musical past. Those who've been following, and loving, Ira Atari & Rampue since their first collaborational single "My Name Is Ira" - to be found here alongside other hits like "Lucky", "Doing Our Thing" or "Space Rocket" - are recommended to buy this piece blindfolded, all others should do the same coze there's simply no chance you won't like it.

baze.djunkiii charts 07/2010

01. Clicks And Cuts Five: Paradigm Shift [Mille Plateaux]
It's defo great to see a label like Mille Plateaux being back on track in 2010, a year in which a style as wide ranged as Electronica seems to gain more attention again from all over the electronic music spectrum and even beyond that. Bringing back their groundbreaking "Clicks And Cuts"-series with a new twist plus introducing loads of new names instead of relying on well established artists is meaning a lot and hopefully more than a future forecast. This one will be regarded as relevant compilation piece for years.

02. Wierd presents Cold Waves + Minimal Electronics Volume One [Angular 067]
Another compilation, this one dealing with the sound of Minimal - / Synth- and Cold Wave. Styles quite unknown to the youth of today, or at least most of them. Well known names like Absolute Body Control or The Neon Judgement are to be found alongside underground groups like Land Of Giants, Ausgang Verboten, Nine Circles or Ruth which have their "Polaroid / Roman / Photo" featured on this, a tune also to be found on the highly recommended "BIPPP - French Synth Wave 1979/85" compilation released in 2006 via Born Bad Records. Btw - ItaloDisco fans will pleased by Stereo's uber-hit "Somewhere In The Night".

03. DJ Naughty - Firepower E.P. [Roska Kicks & Snares]
Well, honestly I don't get the point in most of the hype revolving around the UK Funky scene but this one immediately caught my attention due to its decent and universal attitude well fitting into a Phusion / Broken Beatz / BrokenHouse context. Indeed not an obvious banger but quite a timeless piece that grows. One for the DJ's out there.

04. Spooky - Murderer E.P. [Oil Gang 001]
News from the Slew Dem-stable which seem to have a new imprint up an running. Three Future Grime instrumentals plus one Reggae-influenced Dubstep tune.

05. Greg Wilson - Credit To The Edit Volume Two, Vinyl Two [Tirk 059]
There's many Edits floating around these days as Disco / (Neo)Disco seems to be on a new high but Mr. Greg Wilson is the one that provides true quality here. Two pieces fitting well into (Neo)Disco and DeepHouse sets plus a Vintage relick of The Third Degree's "Mercy" originally released via the legendary Acid Jazz label back in 2009.

06. Marmion - Schöneberg 2010 [Grand Casino 011 Promo]
See review for details...

07. Phonique feat. Ian Whitelaw - Our Time Our Chance [Dessous Recordings 096 Promo]
See review for details...

08. Maetrik - Gliding Blind E.P. [Audiomatique Recordings 041 Promo]
See review for details...

09. Martinez - The Paradigm Shift [Moon Harbour Recordings]
A well surprising album provided by Martinez including a bunch of eight tunes that will be loved by each and everyone appreciating classic House music. Imagine bits of NYC House inna Nervous Records stylee, mixed up with some decent DiscoHouse and a modern DeepHouse-twist.

10. [PRCS 007 Whitelabel]
No additional info given on this one. But who cares for names when there's four proper, well functional pieces of pumping House music?

Moon 44 - House Is A God EP [Super 6 Records 053.5]

Fresh on Super 6 Records is Moon 44's "House Is A God EP" which contains three variations of the name giving track. The so-called "Oldschool Mix" is quite positive and uplifting and could be described as kind of HardHouse with a trancey edge, the "2010 Mix" comes along as a more Progressive Trance-tune which will be well appreciated by all those following the musical pathways of DJ's like Talla 2XLC these days whilst Sascha Müller provides a raw and uncut Acid with screaming 303 sounds and a totally crushed melodic hook - sick!
