Q_e_M - Quality Electronic Music: An October 2k25 Discogs Round Up

So another month has passed and whilst nitestylez.de head honcho baze.djunkiii has continuously worked on the Q_e_M - Quality Electronic Music on Discogs presence and stock a few things have happened and some gems have been added to the inventory which we'll try to highlight on a roughly monthly basis from now on. But before we head to releases for sale we've come across our first non-paying buyer which since then has been blocked, of course. Interestingly this user had seemingly only placed one order before, a few years prior, which also remained unpayed (after thirteen days) and therefore led to a rating of 0.0% with one negative feedback and now made it two. Thanks for the implemented auto-cancellation process on Discogs which we had set generously to seven instead of the default four days buffer for payment. But still - why do ppl do this and block sellers inventory from being sold to commited buyers? Strange.

Limited Edition Restocks:

1. Thee Joker - Untitled [Hotel Lotte 002]
2. Wulfmanson - Untitled [Hotel Lotte 004]

A copy of each 7" vinyl release sold to the same buyer in Belgium earlier this month. According to Discogs not more than 500 copies of these were manufactured for the former Cologne-based Hotel Lotte label which was run by the Liquid Sky Cologne crew in the late 90s as an outlet for all kind of quirky TripHop x Downtempo weirdness and related sonic affairs. With former connections to Liquid Sky Cologne and later being associated with the Liquid Sky Berlin crew for a while baze.djunkiii managed to rescue a bunch of unplayed stock prior to destruction roughly a decade ago. Most of these have been sold but watch out for remaining stock.

Added new and unplayed highlights:

1. Grauzone - Eisbär [We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records 041]
"Eisbär" is an undisputed evergreen in NDW / German New Wave but for collectors of quality [electronic] music the most interesting track on this reissue will be "Film 2" on the flip which provides a truly haunting amalgamation of spiralling SynthWave and ProtoTechno.

2. Wolfgang Tilmans - Insanely Alive (Remixes) [Fragile 013]
baze.djunkiii already praised this release on these pages in June of 2k22 as '...nothing but a top notch bang0r.' and it still is a criminally underrated gem, somewhat sitting in between genres like SynthPop and ElectroClash. Also - when was the last time you actually saw the Pet Shop Boys doing a remix for somebody?

Pre-loved and collectible:

1. Juan Atkins & Moritz Von Oswald - Borderlands [Tresor 262 Promo CD]
Seemingly sought after this rare promo CD from the offices of Berlin's famed Techno staple Tresor Records was sourced from an abandoned CD collection. For fans and collectors of Detroit and Dub Techno.

2. Tangerine Dream - Tangram [Virgin]
Sourced from a retiring DJs collection this is an Italian pressing which might be a little rough around the edges but might provide a gateway for someone who starts to get into Berlin School x ProtoAmbient x Synth sounds for a reason.

Arid Landscapes - Arid Landscapes [Signal Chain Records 001]

One of the two surviving albums out of a multi-album parcel sent to us by the Canadian promo agency Riparian Media lately is the self-titled debut by the duo that is Arid Landscapes, released on September 19th, 2k25 via the freshly launched label named Signal Chain Records as the imprints cat.no. 001. Comprised of guitar player Dan Pitt and keyboardist Noah-Franche Nolan Arid Landscapes cater a set of ten brand new pieces rolled out over a total playtime of 53 minutes, bringing forward a soft and pillowing, yet somewhat nervous and restless Ambient-informed landscape from very the start of the opener prelude which evokes memories of Oval's "Systemisch" album mainly due to its fluttering, destabilized guitars whereas the follow up that is "Rmtk" summons a reather hypnotic and spine-tingling presence in terms of ever intensifying rhythmic loops and "Weathered" provides a stark contrast, being based on plucked, almost chiming string tones which are seemingly live processed electronically and, over the tracks total playtime of 12+ minutes, start to slowly defragment in an ever escalating manner. Furthermore "Union" indulges in slightly glitched out and brittle Deep Listening Music somewhat reminscent of echoes of echoes of Deuter's most minimal Proto-Ambient / Berlin School pieces whilst "The Dust Storm" is a on rather funky, strumming and folksy tip before its inherent rhythms are falling apart in a sea of overlapping echoes and delays and the final cut that is "The Optimist" almost touches base with super dreamy Post-PostRock and PopAmbient most likely to be highly appreciated by fans of intimate Instrumental Folk or early Klimek and the likes of just to name a few. If this, or probably PostRock in general is something you gravitate to this album might be worth your while.

Hui-Chun Lin / Masahiko Ueji - Fat Cat And Drunk Mouse In Zero Gravity [Aut Records 136]

Put out on the circuit via the ever active Aut Records label on October 1st, 2k25 is "Fat Cat And Drunk Mouse In Zero Gravity", the second collaborational album crafted by Hui-Chun Lin and Masahiko Ueji which is released a decade after their 2015 debut suitably called "Fat Cat And Drunk Mouse". With their sophomore longplayer catering a menu of twelve brand new pieces over the course of roughly 76 minutes, sporting titles like the ingenious "A Small Step For A Fat Cat, A Giant Leap For A Drunk Mouse", "Rondo Of The Gas Giant", "The Wow! Signal (Detected In 1977)" and other more or less space related themes we see the two musicians combine their respective instruments, cello and piano, in sometimes quite unexpected, yet rather uplifting ways with the almost ecstatic and wildly spiralling "A Treacherous Trip" seemingly using plucked cello strings as a rhythmic foundation in its intro sequence whereas the "Red Star Club" brings forth more of a rural, yet also seemingly formal influence probably harking back to ancient dancefloors of yore, the playful and oftentimes tongue-in-cheek "The Fake Space Shuttle Got Stolen" even evokes memories of faux cat and mouse chases on display in classical animation films whilst "A Small Step For A Fat Cat, A Giant Leap For A Drunk Mouse" seems to indulge in deep melancholia and therefore provides a sweet haven of calm thought and meditation even though its piano lines keep racing, followed by the entire composition later down the line. Furthermore "Gagarin Shows The Signal And The Position Of Our Predator" dives even deeper into sweet late night melancholia from the start, the "Rondo Of The Gas Giant" seemingly draws inspiration from Classical compositional forms, Jazz and a grain of mediterranean drama before serving cascading waves of interwined piano lines in correspondance with Lin's emotional string works whilst "The First Vodka Outside The Solar System" turns out to be a rather nervous and unstable affair backed by whirling drones and a certain lack of structural stability which, luckily, doesn't matter too much in a zero gravity setting just to name a few. If you're rather intrigued by the title and Improv-leaning Jazz as well as Free Improv are a part of your musical comfort zone go ahead and check this out!

Rough Unit - Desert Crash [Bam Balam Records]

Put out as limited edition of 100 copies only via the Bordeaux-based label Bam Balam Records only recently is "Desert Crash", the latest five track mini album by Rough Unit, an actual side project by RG Rough who's been closely associated with the label ever since the release of his album "60" back in 2019. Opening with "Snake Drive" we see Rough Unit embarking on a journey into rather stripped down and whirling atmospheric PostPunk realms evoking memories of both Tristesse Contemporaine as well as David Lynch for a reason whereas the follow up that is "Red Light Down" weighs in a little more of a straightforward late night dancefloor attitude for all the creatures of the night heavily into PostPunk - and Batcave, vibewise. Furthermore the subsequent "Night Horns" work their way up to a rather dramatic and spiralling climax (not climax) after a suitably dark and nocturnal intro sequence followed by "Dead Ringers", a creeping, constrained and atmospheric sonic exercise accompanied by a fascinating variation of a rather intimate speak-singing performance in terms of vocal delivery whereas the final 8+ minutes cut that is "Ten Miles Under The Radar" weighs in a slightly noisier, defo spine-tingling and probably Industrial-informed PostPunk vision for fans of early Tropic Of Cancer releases and other folks in the know. Go check.

Best song ever. I'll be forever grateful for the one who, unknowingly, nudged me towards this masterpiece. You are my forever heroine.

Daniel Szwed - Splinter [Rope Worm 009]

Another fresh album released by the Polish label Rope Worm on September 24th, 2k25 is "Splinter", the sophomore longplay outing by Daniel Szwed who is collaborating with a set of guest artists on the six tracks and roughly 28 minutes spanning release which, one at a time, chime in both with instruments like piano or flutes as well as with lyrics, providing additional layers to Szwed's electric, electrified and electrifying sonic explorations. With "S1 (With Jessica)" we're entering a dark, spatial and nerve-wrecking realm of hyper-compressed Post-Bassmusic with an intense Industrial twist immediately evoking vantablack memories of Mick Harris' Scorn project whereas "S2 (With Natalia Gorecka)" brings forth creeping and claustrophic, yet metallic and futuristic sounding Rhythm Industrial before "S3 (With Mala Herba)" seems to fuse a rhythmic approach taken from genres like Clicks'n'Cuts with tectonic low end shifts and spine-tingling whispers emerging from dark corners of the listeners mind. Furthermore "S4 (With Liam Andrews)" further explores the realm of Post-Bassmusic meets Broken Techno in a super stripped down musical format which might at times even resonate with fans of Deadbeat in his darkest and most nihilistic moments, "S5" - the sole solo work on this album - caters an amalgamation of electric buzzing, earth shaking bass music and mind numbing drums all falling together in what can be described as time-dissolving Illbient nothingness before "S6 (With Mala Herba)", once again, rounds things off in a rather enchanted, ethereal and almost spiritual way with Mala Herba's multilayered vocals epicly floating atop Szwed's brooding rhythm and bass foundation, breaking through the wall of sound like a first ray of sunlight breaking through turbulent and fast moving clouds after a heavy storm. Highly recommened, this!

Marmur - Elektroniczne Systemy [Rope Worm 007]

Put out on the circuit via the highly appreciated Rope Worm label operating out of Warsaw / Poland on September 24th, 2k25 is "Elektroniczne Systemy", the most recent three track album by Artur Ruminski and Macio Moretti who are operating under their shared musical alias that is Marmur. Opening with "Ludzkosc" the duo brings forth a combination of raw and rumbling percussive movements for fans of close up Electroacoustic Jazz in combination with calm, floating and rather Ambient-sounding synthscapes for the Indietronica and Post-PostRock posse which are becoming more haunting and ghostly over time, followed by the spatial and subaquatic electroacoustic minimalism of "Drenaz" which is a gem for collectors of what is best described as Deep Listening Music emerging from cavernous subsurface vaults, catering an array of buzzing electric rhythm signatures evolving into a stripped down, yet dark and somewhat abrasive take on IDM / Electronica whereas the final cut that is "Objazd" caters a raw, rather glitched out and probably Breakcore-infused variation on heavy Industrial Electronics and Rhythmic Noize experimentations for the darkest of dark underground dancefloors. Only for the headstrong. Go check!

Duffhues - It Has No Face [Zwarte Vleugels]

Scheduled for release via the Belgium-based Zwarte Vleugels label on October 24th, 2k25 is "It Has No Face", the latest album conceived by Duffhues who first appeared on the scene with a self-released cassette tape roughly 30 years ago and has continuously shaped his approach over decades, coming at things from an angle at which he doesn't refer to himself as a musician but rather more of an author, observer and, probably..., a vessel for inherent darkness present in the world today. Once again approaching things form a mono angle sonically Duffhues caters a menu of eleven songs over the short course of 29 minutes, backing raw, grungy and Blues-infused guitars with what seems to be a steady pulse of electronic or rather electronically enhanced bassdrums and a rather unconventional take on storytelling and songwriting which seems rather influenced by observational conversations than by the rule book of traditional songwriting both in arrangement and lyrical structures with spontaneous eruptions of detuned x off-kilter feedbacks in the title track that is "It Has No Face" whilst the subsequent "Smart" is almost seductive due to its simple, cut back and hypnotic main motif before the swirling, brooding bass guitars of "Demon Witch" are fully living up to the songs title, the "Warmonger" bringing on serious heat for dimly lit underground dancefloors whereas the undeniable groove of "Cat In The Box" draws heavy inspiration from dirty Delta Blues and similar sub-genres which makes this specific song one of our personal favorites on the album. This is good stuff. Go check!

Freddy Fresh plays: Sascha Müller - Beat Junkie [Intrauterin Recordings 008]

And so we gotta big up the one and only Freddy Fresh for the support in his latest 45s x 7" only selction named "Cherry Picking 45 7" Master Mix Volume 1". The entire mix in itself is a lovely selection, yet the Indutrial Electro Acid Phonk fun starts at 33:51 for a reason.

baze.djunkiii Charts 10/2k25

01. Trust In 6 - Life In Ecstasy [Mecanica 097]
The Poland-based Mecanica label unearthed another highly influential classic from the early 90s, this time the 1991-released 12" single "Life In Ecstasy" by Trust In 6 which yours truly heard first in the very first issue of the famed 'Techno Trax' 2CD series which was released by ZYX Records in cooperation with Technodrome International back then. With its clear floating synth melodies, EBM- / SynthPop-leaning vocals which evoke memories of Sven Väth's sing/speech style employed in hits like OFF's "Electrica Salsa", subtle Agreppo-influences and of course fueled by the euphoria of early Rave days "Life In Ecstasy" still holds up to this day as a sonic document of its time alongside being a highly seductive dancefloor bang0r and a certified earworm in its own right. Tune!

02. Tron Revolta - Volume 1 [TRON001]
They say things are coming full circle within the music industry roughly every 20 years and it seems like this approximation is kinda accurate once again. Roughly around the mid-00s we saw record stores being flooded with gazillions of il- or semi-legal bootleg releases of rather questionable origin, mostly sitting within the realm of House, TechHouse or ElectroHouse at first before Techno, NuSkoolBreaks and other genres followed suit. Now, in 2k25, we see bootlegs making a comeback and the one in question here is no exception. Especially added to the collection for the pumping, highly seductive and well functional TechHouse-take on Depeche Mode's "Behind The Wheel" as a major selling point for us "King Of Drop" on B1 makes proper use of the beloved hoover signal which shook the world to the core in Human Resource's "Dominator" for a reason and is defo doing the same to contemporary dancefloors these days, despite adding a rather unexpected tongue-in-cheek Rave twist for a peak time tune.

Q_e_M - Quality Electronic Music: A Quick Discogs Round Up

As announced earlier this year myself, that's nitestylez.de head honcho baze.djunkiii to be more specific, has entered the Discogs realm once again after on and off dabbling with the sales-side of platform since back in 2013 - always with the idea in mind to turn this into a curated business model, focusing on the special, mainly underrated, long time forgotten, obscure and / or relatively unknown underground releases when it comes to what I've always referred to as 'quality [electronic] music' for decades. Especially with decades of experience behind the actual counter of a physical record store I've realized that this is what I've always done best in this specific sector - selling the music I'm actually into, unearthing forgotten label stocks, providing guidance, advice and expertise in a field that's vast, rather complex, cluttered and basically incomprehensible due to its sheer size. Just like this website nitestylez.de has been providing guidance in terms of record reviews since the late 90s and will continue to do so Q_e_M - Quality Electronic Music on Discogs is set out to provide a curated selection of mainly new and unplayed sound carrier formats including all things related to the Intrauterin Recordings label group and other baze.djunkiii-releases, labels run by friends, acquaintances and family, releases obtained from trades with trusted sources and underground mailorders as well as occasional - and hopefully more and more regular - brand new and fresh additions to the inventory. Imagine an online source of music which functions like a well and individually curated recordstore the regular reader of these pages would enjoy visiting. That's one for an end goal.

But there's a catch. Every operation which is not backed by major capital funds and resources has to start somewhere. And there we are right now - a clear vision in mind, with selected new and unplayed stock available and a major task to handle.

To build a foundation for things to come we'll be sifting through stacks of hundreds of yet unchecked Library Music CD's which have been sitting in archival boxes for years, a probably 200-250 album strong collection of electronic music CD's we've been taking in a while ago as well as the majority of an entire vinyl record collection from a DJ friend of ours which is rapidly downscaling his personal archive. Alongside these records also came a small collection of sound carriers formerly owned by his parents which obviously includes rather non-electronic music but needs to be worked through as well - a.k.a. fully play-checked and graded with rather detailed descriptions, a feat which seems to be rather rare on Discogs these days - especially for low price second hand x pre-loved items.

Yet our goal is to provide as good of a customer service as possible, even though it can be a rather slow, tedious and time-consuming process especially when it comes to albums which wouldn't be found on the site at all if we hadn't quasi-inherited them. This being said building up inventory from scratch is a priority these days so expect new additions on a regular and feel free to bookmark the link below, with all the proceeds of our sales going directly into the funding of projects like this website and all other pages we run on the interwebz, our labels and of course the acquisition of new stock to sell. Let's make this a thing!
